Re: Big Hawg

I know nothing about these things but I read alot about how they are becoming a real problem with their explosive numbers. Do you all eat these the same as regular farm raised hogs? Do they taste any different? Is there a limit on how many you can shoot? Like I said I know nothing about them and I have always been curious what the scoup is on them.

In Texas there is no limit. Kill as many as you can. They're good smoked. I will say I haven't had a chance to hunt them since I have moved to TX. Once I find someone who will let me clear their land; I hope to hunt some. I would like to make some scrapple out of them to see if that is any good (People from PA will know what I am talking about). Also, I would like to smoke them and try to make carnitas with the meat.

looks like you gave him a Colombian Necktie? </div></div>

Perfect...thanks for that imageshack work-around...fixed my original post. No Colombian necktie....We were cruising the ranch roads at night and came across him. Bailed out and shot him behind the ear, but he still manage to run about 30 yards up a hill. Had to finish him off with a couple more shots!

They are a real nuisance to landowners and they cost the state alot of money every year. The sows and smaller hogs are good to eat, smoke, roast, make sausage out of them. The big boars are not very good to eat.

Re: Big Hawg

Sooo what do you do when you get a boar? Leave it there for the yoties? Again, I don't have a clue I'm just asking for personal knowledge but if they are as big a problem as I read about why don't more people let you hunt them for free and maybe they do I just don't hear or know about it. Again, just asking.

Big boars usually become yotie food and turn into mulch

Some people will let you hunt them for free. The state of Texas pays money to have the hogs removed by professionals in some areas by helicopter. I wish they would open up some of these area to public hunting.

Very much so. And from what I hear they are completely covered up with pigs around there. I hunted by Crowell one time and there was plenty there for sure.
