On the 11th I send him $650 via paypal friends and family for 1000 pieces of Alpha 6mm Creedmoor brass. Paypal sent it as an Echeck for whatever reason and decided to hold the money. I got this reply:

Payment was sent as an e-check, I will let you know once the funds have cleared and I will ship them out then.

Nothing that indicated that wasn't ok to wait for it to clear or anything else. This morning I PMed him to check if he had shipped since paypal shows it cleared Friday the 14th, just 3 days after sending it.

Ok my apologies man, big mix up with the brass, I had another member pm me about the brass with a similar name minutes after you and I spoke originally. He and I have done a couple deals in the past and he already had my PayPal. He sent the funds and I thought that you had referred the check and sent it instantly. My fault, but I guess your funds cleared on Friday but I haven’t looked at my account because I thought the deal was done. Long story short, the funds are in my account and I am sending the $650 back to you right now. Sorry for Cluster, totally on me.

Sorry but I don't believe it.

1. There are no other members with a similar name, I even looked.

2. Supposedly someone he has dealt with in the past and is familiar with sent payment and thought it was me resending it. Didn't put two and two together that we aren't the same person between the usernames, name, paypal ID, or anything else.

3. He thinks I resent payment, yet he didn't accidentally ship the items to me, or respond to my PM with tracking info since he supposedly still thought he was dealing with me.


The guy sold it out from under me AFTER I sent payment and it's as simple as that. Someone who has the attention to detail to load precision ammo doesn't mix up that much stuff.

Beware if you send this guy money for something, he thinks selling it to someone else and just saying sorry is A-ok.

I have a rule that I follow, that protects me from people like him. If I see something for sale that I am interested in I check the members posting history. When I see that the member posts about shooting, and in the team room whatever, then I figure he is a guy like us and I will see if we can make a deal. If a guy like Kortic whose passion for helping shooters get their torque right shines thru I will make the deal. If the member is a sponsor like MileHigh I will make the deal.

But if the member is just always selling one thing after another like some flea market huckster, I don't need to do business with him. It always seems like that kind of person has some glib reason why you should not hold it against him when something goes wrong. It is not worth my aggravation.

This is actually a solid bit of advice and I will follow it as well. I did notice that all of his posts were to sell shit, nothing at all contributing to the site or engaging in conversation. Just using it to peddle his stuff.

FWIW the staff member I messaged to report the guy thinks that he did no wrong and it’s all fine and well since he refunded me and I’m not out anything financially. People not calling out their fellow man and holding them accountable for fucked up actions is the #1 reason that our society is in the state it’s in. Just my opinion.

The seller sent me $50 for “interest” for sitting on my money for a week which I promptly refunded because extorting someone out of a few bucks isn’t my style, honoring my word is.

Yesterday a guy backed into my Raptor and tried to run, then proceeded to tell me I should just live with it because “it’s not that bad”. When that didn’t work he thought I should let him slide because it’s christmas. Nope, scumbags are scumbags 365 days a year in my book.

If he could have put together a story that wasn’t full of holes and convinced me then it would be a different story. I’m convinced he’s being dishonest though and he blatantly breached a contract.

Thanks man, I appreciate the kind words. A lot of people that deal with me in person or online probably think I’m a dick because I don’t take any shit, but at the end of the day I’m forthcoming, honest, and treat everyone respectfully until they give me a reason not to.

Not to toot my own horn but just last week I sold a die to a guy on predator masters, another guy an arfcom actually PMed me hours before hand and I didn’t check the other sites to see if anyone else contacted me first. I failed to check and felt obligated to honor the deal to the other guy since he had actually messaged me first and by hours not just minutes, so I let him PP me the listed price and I had one shipped to him from Midway at my expense for the difference. Was he entitled to it? I think so because despite never communicating back to him, he had PMed me saying he’d take it with zero haggling. I knew I made a mistake by not checking all the sites I had it listed on for telling someone else it was there’s, so I felt I owed it to him. I could have simply said “sorry, someone beat you to it” and he wouldn’t have been any of the wiser, but that wouldn’t have been honest.

I’m a big believer in being ethical to your fellow man.

I have no problem responding to this feedback as I did everything I could to resolve an issue that was a result of a mistake. Refunded his money less than 5 minutes after he brought it to my attention and even offered a little extra for his troubles. What I do have a problem with is someone attacking my character.

Why don’t you talk to the other 100-150 members that I have bought, sold, and traded with over the years and see if they think I am a “Scumbag” nothing but positive feedback over the years. Some of those deals for rifles and optics in the $2000-$3000 dollar range and never had an issue.

People make mistakes, in this case I made one, I admit I screwed up, no one is perfect but at the end of the day you do what’s right. I sent him his money back, offered an apology, and a little more for his troubles.

If you think what’s wrong with society is guys like me who make a mistake, admit it, and do what’s right to try to correct the issue then you have a problem. You have the right to be upset if I had kept your money and not even offered an explanation or apology but I did not.

If it’s an honest mistake then screenshot all of your PM’s from start to finish with the other guy and post them here with addresses and phone numbers edited out.

If it does seem to be an honest mistake then I’ll gladly accept your apology and apologize in return for calling you out.

This is the reason when I sell something, I put the buyers username in the post immediately to alleviate any confusion. Sounds like the guy made it right though. You didnt get scammed. Shit happens. Move on.

You may absolutely be correct and I'd actually love for you to be and know that there's one more decent person in the world.

It's possible that he's just horrible at putting thoughts and context into writing and the explanation he gave that doesn't make sense and contradicts itself was just error. Another mistake I can forgive, but seeing how it's worded it gives me the feeling of deception and based on the replies of the majority of the people who have read the quote that I posted they seem to feel the same way.

Given the circumstances I feel it's completely reasonable to ask for full screenshots of the conversation with the other buyer to be posted that shows all time stamps as well as the full replies to show they have not been edited. If it's an honest mistake and there's nothing to hide there shouldn't be a problem. However if the timestamps don't line up to the other person messaging and sending payment minutes after I did like he he said, then that's an issue. I sent payment at 9:24:01 AM EST on the 11th and sent him a PM immediately afterwards with my shipping address and letting him know payment was sent. I'll happily post a screenshot of the PP transaction with time and date if there is any doubt.

I would have had sympathy for him too if the circumstances were different. He tried to flee the seen, was immediately hostile towards after I calmly told him he backed into my truck when he rolled his window down, he tried to decide what I should be able to live with when he did damage to my vehicle that I paid for, and then he refused to give insurance information or show me his DL to prove he was who he told me he was.

The accident was so minor you can just barely tell the bumper is bent and had he done the right thing and stopped and been apologetic I would have told him Merry Christmas and we would have gone our own ways.

I'll give you that one and even though it's pretty much standard practice around here I know you're not supposed to do it and I did it anyway. Not giving paypal their fee doesn't somehow make it ok for him to decide to sell to someone else.

I'm not worked up in the least bit, I assure you of that. I believe without any doubt that he knowingly sold an item out from under me that I had already sent payment on and if that's the case then it's wrong and not how sellers should conduct themselves.

If he wanted his money sooner he should have said so and I would have overnighted him a certified check that day no questions asked. It was about 9:30AM when he notified me that they issued the payment as an Echeck and it wasn't instant so there was plenty of time for me to do that.

For what it’s worth, I have bought several times from BigCountree with great results. He has always done right by me. I do see how convoluted the story about the mix up seems to get but I’ve had nothing but good luck dealing with him. I hope you can both sort it out.
