Biggest bang for the buck BUIS

I have a Smith and Wesson M&P15 OR It doesnt have a railed handguard but it does have a railed gas block that is the same height as the upper's rail. (laid it on a table to verify.)

Im looking for the biggest bang for the buck, its just a plinker so i cant justify a set of $200 Troy Micro battle sights, I would love to get them from the few threads i read through everyone loved them.

I was thinking a YHM Rear or a

Magpul Mbus rear

Only two complaints i have with the magpul is A. its polymer and B. I dont like how in order to change aperature size you must flip the little window thing up or down. Only complaint i have with the YHM is it looks a bit flimsy. Is there something similar to those in price that would be better?

For the front sight i was thinking a Midwest Industries

Not sure though, My ultimate goal is go get the most for money so i can save up for an optic as well as more ammo.

Look at the LMT front and rear sight, pretty much simulates a std front post and A2 rear sight. The rear sight is windage and elevation adjustable. They are nice and solid, but they do not colapse. but are quickly removeable.

I just put a set of the MI sights on a RRA PDS. I haven't had a chance to shoot with them yet, but they seem very well made and fit securely.

I have an LMT rifle that came with the A2 front and rear sight. They are quite solid. They have giant thumb screws which make them easy to take on and off, but you may not like how they look.

Magpul MBUS sights are perfectly serviceable. They fold down, and are easily deployed. My only problem is that the plastic blades that protect the sights are a little thick and obscure your vision.

I've never handled Daniel Defense back up sights before, but they look solid. The rear sight looks like a A1 style sight.

Other than looking a little funny would it be bad to mix and match front and rear sights? Im thinking Mbus for the rear but then since i dont want to mount a polymer sight to a gas block the one front sight i listed above on the front.

Broker I saw your sights and thought about them, im just a week out from pay day and they are still more than i want to swing.

If money werent so tight Id jump on them though.

You can't really mix-match the sites because of heights. It's like trying to use two different rings for a scope. If you're just looking to get on paper the Magpul Gen II will work fine and save some $$$.

I don't need a lot in trade, but I can always use certain MOLLE gear, good 2 point slings, a podloc, data book, etc. Send me what got if anything and the worse I can say is no lol...

I'm gonna second the LMT's for your application. The Magpuls being polymer might not like the heat from the gas block. Check thier literature to see if it's OK.
The LMT can be found fairly resonable on here from time to time, I think thier might even be a set listed in the for sale section now.

MBUS' on a gasblock is a no-no. They can and will melt if hot enough.

LMT and DD have very nice fixed sights. For folders I would save up and hold out for Troy's. However, I would not get micros as they are for rifles such as SCAR's.

That's incorrect as I used them on my GAP-10 and they did just fine.

What would the Troy fixed battle sights be like??

Would buying those two sights be a better purchase than say a Vortex Strikefire red dot? Or a Primary Arms red dot? I just want a decent set of optics to get me by for a year or two maybe 3 untill i can afford what I really want, an eotech. I keep looking back at the entry level red dots becuase im afraid i will get very sick of irons very fast, Ive never been the best with them. But im also afraid ill get very sick of a 2MOA red dot when the eotech i want is 1MOA

I will amend my statement to say you could use them but you will have your sights lower than standard M4 sights and you will run into difficulty if you get a standard red dot mount and want to co-witness.

If you don't need folding I would say LMT. I have them and they're great. When i installed my eotech I put a folding arms40l on the rear but left the fixed front, I don't even notice the front sight while shooting. Magpuls are on my 6.8 and theyre great for the money but you can't mount them to the gas block

The low profile MI is pretty sweet. I have them on 2 AR's and if you scope it there would be no issues.

Thanks for the help all, im still in the air about what to do.

The more i look at a good set of irons the more i almost want to stay away because i dont want to invest into them then decide I just dont like irons, then when i look at red dots/holographic sights of various price points (everything from Primary Arms to Eotech) Im afraid the cheap one will be crap but the expensive one i will end up not liking, then when i look at low power scopes im afraid its going to make my gun a bit heavy and not do what i want them to do.

Centurion Arms has some nice ones. Monty LC is a good pogue, great products indeed. I am using the Knights and like them a lot. Easy to zero, solid, not cheap in price is the only downside.

+1 I've got a YHM front sight and a DPMS A2 rear sight, quite happy with them. Just like an A2.

+++ on the LMT BUIS. I went this route on my current project just to keep it simple. No optics so no worries. I like it and it works for me. Bang for the buck it's tough to beat.

mad buis and a yhm front flip worked ok fer me. just really dont use em enuf to matter alot anyway as theyre simply backups for a bombproof leupy optic.

IMHO, everybody should have a set of BUIS (and know how to use them) in case your optics take a dump. I run a YHM-9395 front sight tower and ARMS40L rear sight on the AR15; The gas block mount equivalent of the YHM would be the YHM-9584. On the AR10 options seem to be more limited; I run a set of MI sights (MCTAR-10-AFFG and MCTAR-SPLP). As far as primary optics go, the Vortex Strikefire or SPARC is a good mid-priced "light duty" red dot and the Millett DMS-1 is a low-priced 1-4x24 to try out. Having tried both red dots and low-powered scopes on my carbine, I prefer the red dots and leave the 1-4x24 on the 20" varmint rifle.

Just my .02 -- YMMV.

Ok, well im going to go check out a Sparc here locally and see what i think, I like the 2 MOA dot but dont like the 20mm tube (if only they made a 30mm strikefire with a 2 MOA dot)

IF i end up not liking the sparc Im going to get an Arms #40l rear sight with a fixed removable front sight. This will let me play around and should i ever decide what optics, i can remove the front sight (possibly sell it on a forum) then eventually save up for a good folding front.

I'm not a big fan of ARMS products but I am a big fan of the #41 front sight. Its great to be able to fold it out of the way while using an Acog, or an Aimpoint/eotech or a 1.5-5 scope so I dont have that ghost image in the FOV which just mind fooks me. for the rear I rock a matech cause i'm fond of FREE, and it works

I like that front sight, just not sure if i want to deal with changing the gass block right now.

Anyways, as an update i checked my Cabelas Card and noticed i had some points saved up so i went down and picked up a Vortex Strike fire for $40 out of my pocket, ill take the $$ i saved and just invest into those troy sights i want here around christmas
