I’ve searched and am coming up confused as to what’s the best way for me to attach my Harris to an 419 arca rail. I’m not understanding how the area419 kits works exactly. I’m currently using a American defense pic mount with a qd lever and would like to retain qd capabilities. I think the rrs pic rail adapter might work for me but am confused about:
    1. What’s the better option, the area 419 seems like it potentially locks up more stable
    2. Would it be smart to buy just a pic arca Mount and qd my American defense set up to that, so have a double qd essentially, or would that be stupid and bulky?
Any opinions on the matter would be greatly appreciated

I have the RRS SOAR adapter for my atlas. Its expensive. It's worth it. Attach to Pic or Arca and it locks up TIGHT. Half throw and it slides on the Arca

Does it have a sling stud on the bottom?

Sorry I must have misunderstood the question I guess. Are you asking about what mounts to use to mount a Harris bipod to an arca rail? My harris bipod has another sling stud as part of the bipod. It's not part of the mount plate. I cant actually speak to how the RRS SOAR mounting clamp / plate works on a harris as I'm using an Atlas on my Arca rifle. My harris is bolted to a sling stud on a normal cheap stock rifle.

No does the rrs mount have a sling stud? It doesn’t show the bottom of the mount in the pictures on the website

The area 419 arca lock adapter for the harris bipod does not have a sling attachment, it is great when using their rail as it will lock the bipod and not let it slide off but no option for swivel. I use flush cups on my rifles but i have a couple that dont have them and this is an oversight. They should add a flush cup on the rail for this.

The RRS adapter doesnt either, if you were asking that.

IIRC, the only way to mount a Harris to ARCA is if the Harris is a cant model. I could be wrong, but that is what I recall waaaayyyy back, when people were still using Harris and ARCA became popular.

As far as I know (My MPA rat adapter is this way) all acra rail QD mounts use a spigot adapter for harris bipods. So you will remove the swivel stud clamp portion of the harris and then slide the bipod on the spigot that is bolted to the arca QD adapter.

this is what I am asking. I was confused about how the bipod actually mounts. Not how a sling attaches lol. This thread has made me realize I am confused because I don’t know the terms. Thank you all, for your help.

Am I behind the times with a Harris? Seems like a decent design to me still. It deploys quicker than an atlas (I’ve sold the one I had) and loads easier for me. What’s better?

You are currently using a pic rail, the Area 419 is an Arca swiss rail, two different animals. If you use the area 419 you would remove your pic rail and install the area 419 arca swiss rail and you would need the adapter. you could also just leave your pic rail and mount your harris to it. It really boils down to if you want arca swiss or not.

I just made the switch to Arca swiss so I could shoot all my rifles off a tripod, so I put area 419's on all of them and got adapters for my different bipods, harris, atlas and modular evolutions. dropped some coin but know all can use the tripod setup when called upon.

I have the area rails for most of my rifles already. This post is about the conversion, and finding the best way to go about it

Harris is just outdated. It's still a decent bipod, but there are much better options these days.

if you go the area 419 arcalock adapter route it will "lock" into the notches of the 419 rail and will not be able to move, if you go the RRS adapter QD lever direction it will work just fine but as it only locks using friction it can move under heavy pressure. Just depends on what you use it for, I prefer the qd lever for ease of use but have a couple arca locks if the type of shooting may require it.

I have the Area419 adapter with my harris on a MDT ACC.

Harris mounts by sliding the clamp/adapter assembly off and replacing it with the Area419 part. That Area419 adapter bolts to the same ARCA clamp they sell for the Atlas. The adapter and Atlas use the same bolt pattern.

The Area419 ARCA clamp can be used on the ARCA lock rails or “normal” ARCA rails. There are three set screws you remove to allow for non-ARCA lock rails. You can still QD the clamp from both types of rails, but lacking the lock allows for slipping back and forth.

It clamps hard and I have yet to get any slip under a .260, but YMMV.
