Bipod on shooting mat?

Hello,
I was watching a video on YouTube and there were several prone shooters, shooting 1000 yards, that were using what appeared to be a padded shooting mat and their bipod was setup in the mat. Very new precision shooter here and to me that seemed less stable than using the ground. They looked to cant to me as the bipod wobbled on padding. What is best placement of the bipod when using a padded mat?

I'm nobody, we'll I'm not "Nobody". But i prefer my bipod just off the mat.
Much more stable i think.

+1 for off the mat. At competitions with square bays and a shooting mat, I'll usually pull the mat backwards before the stage starts to let my bipod feet be on concrete.

The effect is much worse with tripod feet; when using tripod rear, you really don't want any surface other than ground under the feet, especially the foot of the leg the gun is connected to.

Your mat should have some straps so you can load the bipod. It really depends on where you are shooting. All mine mats have some way to enable loading the bipod

The weight of the rifle also factors in. I prefer off the mat for my T1x as it is so light. A 20 pound rifle won't matter as much.
