What are the advantages/disadvantages to the various blade designs- tanto, clip, etc?

You guys have really started the wheels turning for me. I have been reading up on steels and their qualities. This is good... I need another hobby.

Re: Blade Types

Some cost more than others, and if you're an investor then it's an advantage.

Re: Blade Types

Different blade for different job drop and clip suited to skinning/hunting, Tantos bowies and daggers are fighters and so on as for steels Damascus is more for collecting in my book other then that different steels flex and behave differently laminated blades are best IMO carbon steels and tool steels make awesome blades I use d2 to make most of my knives but they aren't as hardy as stainless and either need to be blued or oiled most times I do both to keep them mint stainless is easier to care for carbon IMO holds a sharper edge but requires more maintenance and then there's ceramic blades awesome but a different kettle of fish all together select 1 that suits your needs best for a non custom field/ hunting hibben alaskan w/ gut hook is nice for display talking point a nice pattern Damascus with a nice marbled wood handle
