Can someone give me some feed back on the above. I was looking at replacing the factory FF tube with a DD, Larue or BO stabilizer. I have used the DD and the Larue before on ar 10s regular weight barrel ar 10s but this is my heavy barrel 260 and was wondering what people that have the BO thought of it. Kind of ugly but if it works: at 169.00 compared to 299 for the larue and 300 plus for the DD I can handle ugly.

Re: BO Stabilizer handguard.

Good tube but not en vogue these days.

After SHOT 2010, I came away thinking if I ever saw another variant of the AR FF tube I'd throw up on the spot.

It will serve you well about everywhere but with the mall ninja crowd; if you can live with that, go for it.

Re: BO Stabilizer handguard.

I just pulled the DD off of my 6.5, and replaced with the Badger. I kinda shy away from rails these days. Tho, soon as I have the funds, I'm tradeing out all my ar handguards for the JP tube. The badger is pretty nice. and if you use a harris bipod with it, it snugs up just right.

+1 for this, you can add or remove rails on the JP tube and its a pretty slick unit.

Re: BO Stabilizer handguard.

Lone wolf how does the Badger install? How does the forend attach to the barrel nut? I read another post on here one guy talking about his rotating and another one about a round nut and a square nut and not knowing which to tighten. Is it that confusing to install? Searched the net and can't find installation instructions.

Re: BO Stabilizer handguard.

There's a nut that screws onto receiver and then the handguard slides onto that and gets screwed on w. 3 screws. It's a nice setup in that you can get the big nut set level before attaching the handguard and it's not the usual back and forth PITA.
It's heavy and square shaped, makes a good bench rest forend. I used to have one and think that it was pretty good, just wanted to loose some weight.

Re: BO Stabilizer handguard.

like lonewolf says in his write up. long screws on the bottom row, short screws on the top row. i like mine too. complete rifle was 13.5 with a full mag and scope

Re: BO Stabilizer handguard.

I read the installation link great link Thanks. What the hell is a "crows Foot" he mentions for torquing the nut? is it a proprietary spanner for the BO nut or what? Anyway thanks for all the input.

Re: BO Stabilizer handguard.

a "crows foot" is a type of wrench that most mechanics will have. Looks like an open end wrench, that you plug a socket wrench into. I only used a 4' pipe wrench to install my badger. (it's what I had)

Re: BO Stabilizer handguard.

Does anyone know what size the nut is? Really leaning toward the badger now that I see how its attached. It going on a heavy barrel so weight isn't much of an issue.
Thanks

Re: BO Stabilizer handguard.

What hasn't been said and I think is most important is - use the Badger if you dig the feeling of your bolt gun's forend as opposed to a round or round + rail forend. Otherwise, why would you use it? It's a pig (but it feels great in the hand).

A little skate (deck) tape on the smooth section running up the center of the underside the FF, a single sling stud up front for a direct mount of the Harris Bi-Pod, and another single sling stud on the shooter's weak side for a sling mount. Done.

Good luck

Re: BO Stabilizer handguard.

I would not give up my Badger stabilizer handguard for anything else on the market. I definitely shoot better with it over anything else.
Great for long range matches, multi-positional shooting, and for hunting. I have gotten myself in some pretty crazy positions still-hunting/stalking deer that no other handguard would had rendered as stable of a shot.
It is heavy and built like a tank, but it does not bother me.
