I sold my tactical/huntin .308 rig. I bought a straight up bare bones huntin rifle. The compact tactical REM 700 was just not practical for me. I picked up a Remmy 700 sps and the matte bolt just felt too rough. I picked up a Savage 10 GXP3 .308. The bolt was 100 times smoother and the stock was way more comfortable. The shop had some other models like Marlin and Howa. The Savage came as a package deal with a cheap bushy scope. All things considered I felt the Savage sold itself. I look forward to the range test and experiencing the accutrigger.

What hunting load would yuns recommend for a 22" 1-10" twist barrel?

Welcome to Savage Country!! The above listed options are all good choices. Just let your new toy tell you what it likes, and stick with it.

Re: Bought a SAVAGE deer rifle

I caugh some derision for backing the Remington 710/770 some time back.

Now Savage has fielded its own answer to those rifles, called the Edge.

Reading some reviews, it looks like it's a simple, straighforward, effective example of the bare bones hunting rifle, at a bargain basement price. Please note the link points to Cabela's deal on the top of the line rifle/scope Bushnell/Savage Edge XT Camo package gun. That $379 price point is actually Savage's list price for the XP Camo rifle without the optics, so it's essentially a case of buying the gun and getting the optics/mounts/boresighting for free.

Re: Bought a SAVAGE deer rifle

Love Savage, bought one in .243 for a friend few years ago, when Accutrigger first came out. I put a Burris FF2 on it, got it dialed in for him, ended up dropping three deer with three shots before he actually got his hands on it.

Ugly lil bastards but they sure can shoot!
