Just picked up a Springfield Armory 1911 Loaded Lightweight Operator today. I've been wanting a 1911 for a long time and I figured now was as good a time as any to bite the bullet. The gun is smooth as hell, and points so much better than any pistol I've ever owned. The only thing that sucks is disassembly/reassembly. Shockingly, the M9 actually has a leg up on the 1911 in this one aspect. I'm going to be taking it to the range tomorrow and see how this gun performs.

It's a bit better once you get used to it, but yeah, compared to other handguns it can be a little PITA.
Nevertheless, the 1911 is still the queen, and the king, of the handguns

Well you deffinetly waited long enough, they've only been around for about 100 years. J/K congrats on the new pistol. I'm sure you will love it Springfield makes a great pistol.

This is what I'm worried about! I tried to get one with all the bells and whistles I really wanted so I didn't have to spend extra cash doing customizations. Buy once, cry once.

I get tickled because every time I get a new gun, the starts in with the this-is-the-last-gun-for-a-while,-right? talk. "Oh sure, honey, nothing again for a while..." Can't wait to get it to the range today.

Re: Bought my first 1911

I took the new 1911 to the range today and ran it through a rigorous workout. It gobbled up all the ammo I threw at it. It is so much easier to get back on target with this 1911 than other guns I've used, I think because of the low bore height. Not sure though. Lastly, I used rounds that failed to feed in my HK USP last week at an IDPA match. Whatever issues my HK had with the ammo, the 1911 shot them into one ragged hole. Definitely a satisfied customer.

Re: Bought my first 1911

Loaded = good stuff. It comes with the upgrades that are necessary for a 1911 to be truly useful.

Think about getting yourself a heavyweight full size for a 2nd 1911.

Re: Bought my first 1911

A wise old SF team sergeant told me a while back that if I want a 1911, get one with all the bells and whistles I have to have and not get a bargain basement model which I will later customize. I'm glad I took his advice.
