Boyds or Bell & Carlson - Tikka T3 Lite

Good afternoon,

My father-in-law passed me a Tikka T3 Lite in .270 WSM. The rifle shoots great but the stock is not cutting it for me.

Does anyone have experience with the Boyd's Laminate and/or the Bell & Carlson sporters? Both companies make drop-in stocks for the light models but I wasnt sure if anyone recommends going one way or another.

I have both. Both will still require some minor fitting. The laminate stock seems very heavy compared to the B&C. If you want to add weight, go boyds. If you want to keep lightweight, go B&C.

My B&C came with aluminum bedding block. Boyds does not have that so I had to send to gunsmithing for bedding.

Thanks for the reply! Great point about the bedding block. I think that makes the decision easy for me.

I kept the original stock and filled the forend with lead to improve balance and heft. I also pillar bedded the action and use a torque of 60# for the action screws. The barrel is fully floated and secure. Love it!

The B&C is only 3 oz heavier than the factory sporter stock, and much stiffer, and has the aluminum bedding block.

I have one on my 308 and one on my 7Mag.

Although, the LimbSaver “air tech” pad does a much better job of recoil reduction if you install one on your factory stock.

I filled the forend with lead to get a better balance and better recoil management. I have something like what you described but I forget what it’s name is. Works pretty well. I also pillar bedded the action and swapped out springs for a < 1 lb trigger release. I love it. Just took it into the woods for the first time. The 2 pt sling helped but it was a bit clumsy with my pack until I rigged it like an “assault rifle” carry in front. I think that’s as good as it gets lol
I realized that was an older pic. Doesn’t show the cheek riser I added. It’s becoming a fine wine rofl. Circa old fart style. Nice body with a smooth soft finish.
