I saw your thread earlier and got a chuckle. I was going to post but decided not to, it reminded me of a story.

In 05/06ish time frame we were running convoys in Iraq and got a message to watch out for any solo US HMMWV and use caution as it may be hostile. Haji had managed to steal a fully armed M1114 with radios, satphone fully loaded 240 in the turret, At4's, all the fixins. Was an active duty infantry unit that provided QRF to a local base that let it get stolen. They walked right onto base and drove right out without anyone noticing.

So its not just reservists that do dumb shit. For those that don't know, there is no key on these. Just a toggle switch to start it. Most units have a steering wheel cable lock rigged that is used as your "key" and the uparmoered ones have doors that can be locked. We were still rocking Hillbilly armor while everyone else had the fancy shit. If you were in the turret from your stomach to your knees the only protection you had was the plastic panels on the HMMWV. When we finnally got uparmered LMTV's at the end of the tour after 4 guys had died and 20 more wounded in my company alone in the piece of shit vehicles, it was bittersweet. Didn't lose anyone else to IED's after that.
