Broken Aimpoint

a buddy of mine gave me his Aimpoint comp m2, he had broken the brightness/power knob, put it away to address later and forgot about it for years. He no longer needs it so he gave it to me. He tells me he got it sometime in the early to mid 2000’s and it is out of warranty.

Before I take the time the time to send it in I’m wondering if there is a way to fix it myself. I used my google-fu and found several examples of this break but no one who has fixed it, maybe it can’t be fixed. Any advice aside from sending it in?

Both of my comp m4 needed to go back for rebuilds.
