Rifle Scopes Broken EOtech

I just wanted to see if anyone has had an experience like mine. My eotech 512 broke, the lense on the inside got knocked loose by the recoil from my 500 s&w. I've loved the sight and they are replacing/fixing it for me, so zero complaints from me. Just curious if I got a faulty one or if it just wasn't a good combo. I've seen eotechs mounted on browning m2 50 cals so....... Experiences? Opinions? Check out the video to see exactly what the damage looks like. Thanks

i've never had an EOTech die on me, and i've never heard a first hand account of one dying.

their CS is great. you should have it back in no time.

The ones with inline batteries break all the time under heavy use. It's why the new ones have the batteries across the optic and not inline with the recoil.

They break a lot actually.

I have seen a recent rash of EOTech failures in some of our classes. Most are model 552, and it seems that the hot Florida sun, baking the EOTech in the trunk of patrol cars plays havoc on the glue that L3 uses.

It has become such a common occurrance that I have really grown to not trust them. Now, having said that... I have a Model 512 that is about five years old, with zero issues. I just don't keep it in the trunk of my patrol car.

I have seen three prisms come loose in the past three months. L3's customer service is good to go though. Most common failures I am seeing are the spring cups in the battery compartment coming loose. It's to the point now that EOTech just sends out replacement covers.

EOTech's are infamous for breaking. Certain unnamed carbine instructors will count the EOTechs at the start of a class and predict the number of failures they will see during the class. Good news if you get a good one they tend to last.

Get an AimPoint; don't worry about battery life and failure.

I've only ever seen the battery cups fail except one occasion of a button failure. Overall pretty durable optics.

I am a rifle instructor (M4a1) for a large federal agency, I teach officers, agents and soldiers on a US Army base. without getting into specifics of who/where ill just say i've been teaching this particular course for a year and Eotech failures are so common that we are keeping a log of them.

So far in a year of training we have had 0 failures with the Aimpoint M68, 0 failures with Acog TA31s and about one Eotech failure per week. Most Eotech failures are battery box related.

Also the click detents wear out quickly making zero adjustment more time consuming and battery life isn't competitive with Aimpoint and especially not with Acog.

I had a new 512 had the same thing happen to it when it was 4 days old. Had less than a hundred downrange an my ar15 when the reticule started moving to to right away from my poi.I turned the rifle up to check the mount, and heard the lens flopping around inside. I sent it back and got it repaired under warranty. I sold it as soon as it was shipped back,and will never pay for/ or recommend another one.

After range days, up to a quarter of the patrol rifles topped with EoTechs in the PD armory can be down for maintenance.

Well thanks for the repsonses. Seems to be mixed reviews from everyone. I never had a problem from mine for the year and a half I used it for three gun comps on my ar until I threw it on top the beastly 500 s&w.

Just wanted to update everyone. I shipped it off the 18th and got it back this past friday the 26th. Its fixed and ready to go again and they even shipped it back next day air, I did not ask this. THATS CUSTOMER SERVICE. It is rather refreshing to see a company actually stand up and support the product they make.

My two cents on the subject are that since 1) they fixed it 2) they did it quick 3) they shipped back as fast as they could. I'll continue to give them a thumbs up. I'm not trying to say aimpoint or whoever is better or worse, never used one. But I'm reasonable enough to know when you make complicated devices with electronics and trying to be light weight you aren't going to have a bomb proof thing. But to have a company invest in themselves to repair and ship quickly what does break only adds to their value. How much money do you think they just spent to repair and ship my sight? 75-100 bucks? If it was a horrible product they wouldn't be in business.

I had the exact same failure today. The sight has seen very light use on an AR 15. The only Aimpoint trouble I have ever seen was due to dirty contacts on the switch, and a little Deoxit solved the problem.

I have not experienced this type of failure with my Eotech which I have had for ~ 6 years. I do have a problem when I get the AR out of the safe after 6 months or so and the systems seems to have changed requiring a couple of MOA change in the optics and then it takes a bit to get this settled into the correct spot. Any similar experiences out there?

Thats exactly correct, never noticed it til Lowlight pointed it out.

All the ones we have at work with the AA's batteries are in a box broken and the new ones we have use the lithium batteries and have been holding up great.

You know its kinda funny cause it seems like most people don't realize stuff till lowlight posts it, they read it, and then jump on his band wagon. I know how about you send me that box with all the broken eotechs in there. I'll get them fixed and put them to good use!

I have one of the newer ones with the cr123 battery mounted sideways. About 500 rds on it and bumped around a lot with no problems so far.

I carried an Eotech with the "N" battery for years and it survived thousands of rounds and several beatings. It was a great sight but several guys I know who have used models with AA batteries have had issues. I dig the Eotech but run an Aimpoint Comp3 on my rifle now.
