Took my A-5 out of the safe for a dove shoot yesterday. To say I've neglected it is an understatement. Can anyone tell me how to disassemble the receiver. I have a schematic but was looking for a link with some step by step.

Thanks for the help,

Chris

Re: Browning A-5 disassembly

1.make sure it's unloaded, remove the forearm and barrel.
2.remove the recoil pad/buttplate then the stock bolt, then slide the buttstock off.
3. Retain the action spring plug and push it towards the receiver then push the retaining pin out either side. Then remove the action spring.
4. Start removing the receiver screw lock screws, if you want mark which ones go where.
5. Remove lower middle trigger plate screw.
6. Remove rearmost receiver screw and remove trigger plate.
7. Remove the remaining receiver screws(carrier screws short stubby screws.
8. Retract bolt about halfway then sprlit the op handle from the bolt to reveal a cross pin, this is driven from left to right. This will allow you to remove the bolt from the front of the receiver.
If you need anything further don't hesitate to call me at my shop.

Re: Browning A-5 disassembly

Make damn sure you have some quality thin blade screwdrivers. I believe Brownells has some bits for their drivers that are specifically for the A5's. Without these you WILL bugger of the screws.

I hope you have a good memory. I knew a guy that took one apart thinking he was going to clean it. He had parts leftover when he took it to the GunSmith to have him make it right. Good Luck

Re: Browning A-5 disassembly

hey it looks like its covered. i rehabed my 1965 A5 light 12 and used a short 10 page spiral bound deal i got from brownells. i also bought the special set of screwdrivers. it was easy. the only thing i could not do was drift out the pin that holds the bolt in the receiver so i just sprayed it all out good and lubed it well. the book was called a take down manual. gave step by step instructions. here is what i used
