A friend passed away and I’m working on getting ages and values of some of his pieces. He’s got a Browning A5c made in Belgium but stamped FN. Serial number is 879xx. Any idea it’s age and value?

Full choke, in decent shape.

as far as value- Go to Gunbroker- set up a free account.

Search for the same model and under advanced search- select completed auctions.
This will show you both successful auctions- items that sold & Auctions that ended unsold.

For both insurance and a true market value it will give you a real world idea on pricing.

When it was made...

1903-1939First 10,000 shipped to U.S. Marked with "BROWNING AUTOMATIC ARMS CO. OGDEN UTAH-U.S.A." Very few serial number records remain.Beginning with Serial Number 1 to approximately 228,000. Exact production figures are not available. Year of manufacture on Pre-World War II production is strictly a guess.

Production of the Auto-5 in Belgium continued until the start of World War II, when Browning moved production to Remington Arms in the United States.
