Browning BAR Question

Are there any BAR experts??

I have a BAR with the following serial number 598xx M77. When attempting to look up it’s manufacture date, it appears to have the 1976 and earlier convention; however, has a “77” after the “M”.
Can anyone tell me anything about this?

Have you tried calling Browning?

I'm assuming it's the hunting rifle BAR, not the M1918

I appreciate the responses. Yes, I do have a call into Browning. Just trying to do a little due diligence until I receive response.
It’s the hunting rifle.
