Gunsmithing Brux Barrels

I have been considering getting a Brux Barrel in .257, to rebarrel my hunting rifle. It's already a 25-06, and I am going to keep it that way.

I was wondering what people have to say about them. Clean easily, accurate, etc?

I have a Bartlein on my varmint rig, and it's an awesome barrel...but I don't really feel like waiting 6-8 months. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have two and the barrels are great. They are very helpful on the phone if you have any questions. Also have a better turnaround than most of the other major barrel makers. Brux Barrels popularity continues to grow.

Brux is good stuff from what I've seen so far. I've seen teh before and after of more than a few rifles that have em, and they are all shooters, and clean well.

ask Shag... his latest build...we put a Brux on his.

Good deal, called them up this afternoon, should be here in less than 10 weeks, and after 4 months of waiting my bottom metal finally arrived!

You must have had some Williams bottom metal on order!

Got mine yesterday too. I hope the wait for the brux isn't 10 weeks, the wife ordered one for Christmas for me....

10 week wait would be good compared to some others. The economy sure hasn't hurt the gun barrel business, or they just cut back hours, I'm not sure.

This is my latest build in 308 with a Brux barrel.The action was trued up and barreled by Jim See at Center Shot Rifles.I have a couple guns with brux's on them and am currently having a 338 LM built on a surgeon 1581xl that will have a brux on it. Every gun that Jim has built for me has had a brux barrel and shoots unbelievable.Quarter inch 3 shot groups are the norm off a bipod at 100. I also have never had a brux take longer than 4-10 shots of break-in before they start cleaning right up. This particular gun honestly shoots 1/4in at 100 with Factory ammo any day of the week. I havent had a chance to stretch this one out yet,but I am sure it will do just fine.

Brux are some of the finest around. My 308 has gone as much as 685 rnds when we were doing accuracy tests to see how much they could foul before losing accuracy. It had not lost accuracy so I cleaned it just to see. CCB was 1/4"up/left, then the rest went right back in and started grouping again.

Yep, was waiting on Williams

. He told me 10 wks, but said it will probably ship before that since they don't do many .257 barrels. I am sure you should be gtg.

All of the responses have been reassuring. Cant wait to get it all trued up and chambered. Should be fun!

Brux 1:10 Rem. Sporter Contour to launch the 110gr Accubonds

Should be a good hunting rig when all said and done.

I'm getting a SS #4 contour in .338 for a .338-06 hunting rig.

The bottom metal from williams is truly impressive, threw it in my HS precision stock and it snugged right in with no inletting required.

What stock is that on your rifle? Looks like it has a wide forearm or am I seeing things?

They are terrible. I have 3 now, will buy more and they are terrible and I will continue to use their blanks. LOL. Go with them, fast service, great barrels, talk to the owner (Ken) when you order.

It is wide, it is a McMillan Winchester Marksman on a Stiller action and Brux barrel.
What stock is that on your rifle? Looks like it has a wide forearm or am I seeing things? </div></div>

Thanks for the reply. I have seen the pic of that stock on the website but I could not tell that it had that wide of a forearm.
Good lookin rig other than somebody put the bolt handle on the wrong side

I have had three installed so far and all shot very well and cleaned up easy also. The last one I had installed has never seen a brush only Wipe Out ocasionally. I have another one that will be installed shortly.

The last one I had I just shot it, no break in procedure.

I decided a while back that I was good enough at cleaning so I did not need to practice cleaning anymore. Since than I clean a lot less and shoot more and I want to get better at shooting so that makes sense to me.

The Brux on my 6.5x47 was my first high end custom barrel. I was going to make sure that I did the "proper" break in cleaning after x rounds and all that crap. Well, I got to the range shot my hundred test loads and forgot all about the "break in". The rifle's a hammer and I now know that "break in" is a crock. For a factory barrel it may have some merit with the theory of helping to smooth out tool marks or something of that nature, but for custom barrels that are hand lapped and smooth from the get go, why bother.

Also with the my Brux, I only clean it every 400 rounds. My cleaning regiment is one wet patch followed by two or three dry patches, no brush at all yet. Someday maybe I'll scrub it really good, but not likley, it shoots too good.

I won't say told ya so, but thats the way those guys operate. If they can do it, they will send it to you ASAP. On my 3rd one, (different guns) and am very pleased.

HA HA, yeah you shoulda told me. What a surprise I came home and seen a skinny brown box laying on my step, and said, "Holy sh!t, my barrel's here already?"

Great outfit have a cpl of their barrels and they shoot lights out. I really like their interrupted fluting as well got a .257 cal blank too looking to make a 25-06 AI outta that one.
