Subject says it all . . . I'm looking to take my coyote hunting into the night. Most of the shots will be around 200 yards, and I'm on a budget. I can do stand-alone, or, with a compelling argument, I can go with a device that sits in front of the scope . . .

So, anybody have one, or have a suggestion for one?

What he said, night vision devices have a pretty wide range of cost, depending on features and actual light gathering/clarity. You may be better advised on just buying a high quality scope with good light gathering and go from there.

Less is better. If I can keep it under a grand, I'd be happy.

Try http://www.tnvc.com/ I have one of there clip on units and it works outstanding. Its more then what your wanting to spend but some of there night vision scopes can be got cheaper. I think one of the guys name is clay they had some units they took in on trade and were offering them right.

The only NV I have had a chance to play with was an old Gen 1 scope, that was not too impressive, but from what I have read the Gen 2 scopes are quite a step up, but they get pretty expensive, as I am sure you have already found out. I might get a chance to play with a PVS-14 in the future tho, and that will be pretty of interesting. Good luck with you decision BTW
