Rifle Scopes Budget scope options

If you had to choose what would you consider to be a great budget scope. Variable power, repeatable tracking, good glass. Not setting a price point just curious what everyone thinks is the best budget options.

I’ll start with mine. Nikon Buckmasters 4.5x14. Tracked great when new and had good glass for around $300. That being said it went south after about 6 years and while nikon has fixed it and it will hold zero tracking is anything but dependable.

SWFA fixed scopes do a good job and are priced around $300. Nevermind, you said variable power......

I just threw in a Bushnell engage 3-12x42 with exposed turrets with an order on expiritcity... for the price and what I've read it might be a nice budget option. For the price figured i would grab one to check out

I think if you take a few minutes to read this Athon BTR review posted here on the forum I think you'll agree that for the money this scope it tough to beat

Seems to a a fair amount of decent/budget priced scopes out there right now. I settled on a Vortex Strikefire II 6-24X50 after trying a few scopes and testing. My brother owns one of these and for a scope that can be had for <$300ish I am mightily impressed.

Budget scope. It'll do until I gain enough experience and skill to use a $4K scope and it's got the Vortex VIP/Lifetime warranty. Worth the price of admission right there.

Weaver Tactical 3-10x40. It used to be a midway exclusive for 399$ It was a steal at that price, now they are showing up on eBay and Natchez for 200$!!!
Next tier, would be SWFA 3-15.

Mueller 8-32x44, I have three. I never did any tracking tests with them, that may come about some day. One's on my Stag Model 6 Super Varminter kit rifle, and one each on my Savage 11VT's .223 and .308. $259.99 at Midway, both target dot and Mil-Dot Reticles available, 30mm tube, side focus.

The best bang for buck I’ve gotten is the PA Platinum. Every time I use I think maybe I spent too much on my Razor Gen II.

Does anyone have a durability report on any of these budget optics? Looking at a scope with mil turrets and a mil reticle, mine doesn’t match right now.

SWFA SS scopes were originally designed by Tasco for a military contract......when they werent selected they sold the design to SFWA.

they are REALLY good scopes for the money

I have had a 12x and a 16x for a few years now. Really worth the money to me. Glass good enough, tracks perfectly, repeatable. I am not a competitor, but they have seen some rough handling. I am setting up a new rifle to try some practical shooting and my $300 SS 12x beat out an $800 Bushnell scope for primary optic. The glass on the Bushnell is slightly better, but I like the turrets, reticle, and amount of elevation on the SS better.

Price to quality ratio, ""especially considering glass"", I'd take Athlon's Midas TAC over anything else mentioned so far in this thread.

Shop around, you can get these for less than MAP.

I just got the 6-24x50 TAC with the new reticle/APRS3, oh boy!

I swear they keep making the turrets more tactile and audible with every shipment, these turrets are stupid nice regardless of price!

It's getting extremely hard for me to justify spending the big bucks for scopes anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! well for the rifles too. Cept maybe that new Borden Super Short 6!

I agree, the Midas TAC appears to be a great value. I almost bought an Argos BTR, but went with the SWFA 12x as my first scope.

What are everyone’s thoughts on the Sig Tango4 6-24x50 with DEV-L reticle? Seems to also be another budget choice with a Christmas tree.

Midas TAC was what I decided on a few months ago but looks like they've updated it/added new Athlon models so will have to keep narrowing down.

Midas TAC gets my vote for sure. Really impossible to beat in that $500 range. Punches well above its weight class.

Just traded my budget Vortex Crossfire II 6-24X50 scope (paid $250) with vertically split Vortex Pro rings for an Athlon Argos BTR 10-40X56 and horizontally split Vortex Precision Matched rings adding a 20 MOA rail.

Loved my cheap Vortex and it had me shooting .5 MOA at 100 yards and damn near as good out to 600 this season. The new Athlon gets zero'd at 100 and then tested next week but even setting it up it is plain that it is vastly superior in terms of glass quality and precision.....clear, audible clicks and all that. For budget optics my <$400 Athlon looks and feels like scopes costing >$900+.

Add Athlon from Doug at Camera Land to yer list of decent budget priced optics.

I revived it because I'm in the same situation, thought it was better than starting a whole new thread to see what a year of scope usage and technology has done for the world. Lots of good info coming in too!
