I'm in the process of having my first custom rifle built. This is strictly a hunting rifle so I figured I would post it here. I am scared that there is something I'm missing or getting wrong just because of lack of experience with custom guns. As of now, my build specs are

Blueprinted 700 action
25" Bartlein #3 in 280AI
Manners EH2
Timney Calvin Elite
My Vortex 4-16

I'm concerned that I went too light on the barrel contour but I'm trying to keep this as a manageable hunting rifle and not so much of a pig. I also have no experience with the Manners stock. I'm just going off of what I have read.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Manners stocks are the best in my opinion. For a hunting rig u don't want a heavy tactical rifle barrel. Usually 1 shot 1 kill and maybe a follow up will be needed now and then. I like a vortex 2.5-10 x32 for a hunting scope my razor 5-20's work for stationary targets but moving targets are hard to get in the reticle fast in my exp. I'm no expert and there are many on this sight who know way more than me. I think u did it right. I might change the scope and I like a kreiger #7 the best of both worlds in my opinion. Click on the utube link on the bottom of my post. That my heaviest hunting rig at 14lbs. The other is a 308 with a 20" barrel and the vortex mentioned before. Also depending on range I would look into a 260,308, or 6.5 creedmoor. Great barrel life and range capabilities. And shorter more manageable barrel length .

Thanks for the info. I chose .280AI because I shot .280 for a long time and my donor action is .280. Just looking for something a bit different. The #3 Bartlein was the big question. It was recomended by my builder and I figured since GAP uses the same on their non-typical, I couldn't be too far off.

#3 is fine. I have shot #3 barrels chambered in 300wm. Just make sure your first or second shot counts becouse your third shot a little unpredictable. Plus you will have a little more metal in the barrel being thet the hole is .284 and not .308.

Your good to go!
