I have a 12.5” 6.8spc from AR performance running a specwar 7.62 can. I’m looking for a few suggestions on what bullets to use for reloading. My main use is coyotes and possible mule deer out to 300yds. I have been using hornady 120sst to break the rifle in and collect brass.

Main goals are obviously good performance on coyotes and mule deer. Ok with 2 separate bullets if needed for best performance on both.
Flattest trajectory to 300ish yards from 12.5” barrel

Also looking for powder suggestions for said bullet suggestions.

Thanks

How's the SST shooting? That's what I use in mine and it works great on hogs and whitetail deer. I thought about reloading 6.8 but the factory 120 SST works really well out of my 11.5" SBR with tbac cb7. I've shot a few coyotes and bobcats with it also, but can't 100% remember if the exit wound was so bad it ruined the hide. My gut says the hide was ok if you are planning on keeping or using.

Sorry for no help on the actual reloading question. The 68 forums may have some recipes though!

I only have 100 rounds through it so far. Been using a 1-6 so haven’t been able to test accuracy. I just put a 4-16 on to help with accuracy testing. The 120sst seems to be shooting pretty good though.

As stated, the 68 forums is the place to look. However, I like the Speer 90 grain TNT HP with AA2200 powder, good for plinking and smaller game (coyotes). The 110 grain Nosler Accubonds and 95 grain Barnes TTSX over AA2200 have shot good as well, for larger game.

Good luck!

I've been using the Hornday 120 SST in a Wilson 11.3" barrel on everything from coyotes, 350lb hogs to white tail deer. If it ain't broke, then why fix it?

I am starting to reload so don’t have any components yet. And since I’m starting from scratch I would like to start with the best bullet for my goals and see if it will shoot well. I would imagine that the 80-90gn bullets have a much flatter trajectory from 0-300 which is my goal. I’m just trying to figure out which bullet to test first.

I’ve had good luck with the 120 SSTs as well, albeit my 6.8 has an 18 inch barrel. I think I took 7-8 whitetail with it the first season I used it.
