I'm wanting to try Barnes 127 LRX or Hammer 125 HHT monometal bullets for hunting with my 6.5 GAP that is wearing a 24" Brux 8.5 twist barrel. The bullet manufacturers both recommend a minimum twist of 8. I think I should be fine at the elevations where I shoot/hunt around here (5000-10000 feet). I am, however, on the fence about whether or not these bullets will be good choices for an upcoming caribou hunt in Alaska at an elevation of around 3000 feet. Stability calculators are giving me an SG of around 1.3-1.45 for the conditions I expect to encounter. Do you think thats enough for reliable performance on game out to 600 yards?
