    hi all,
bought a S&W performance center semi auto over the weekend, picking up my takedown 22 tomorrow, and got a b7nch of ammo coming. Now need to get a red dot sight for it.

I've heard good things about the Burris Fastfire, so likely will go that route unless there are others that are better at the cost/benefit ratio.

My question is, what size dot should I get for plinking and shooting 25-50 yards? 3 MOA? 8 MOA?

    Thanks for your help!

I have the 3moa for my pistols. Dot is plenty big enough for me to see without issue and not so big it covers bullseye or targets at 25 yds. On the brightest settings it blooms a little bit and seems even bigger. The new FastFire 4 is supposed to have variable dot sizes from 3m0 to 8 moa to 3 or 8 with a large circle. 15 MOA outer ring iirc. May be worth looking at.

Installed the Burris Fastfire III on my S&W 929.
Good battery life, small footprint, lightweight.
Works well out to 50 yards, no problem acquiring target.
Variable brightness to fit conditions, I like it.
The smaller the dot the better my results.

You want 3 MOA for anything other than shotgunning or Steel Challenge (where the targets are huge). If you find the 3MOA dot too small you can sort of make it bigger by making it brighter.
I have a 3 MOA and 8MOA Fastfires (mistakenly bought the 8 MOA first and then found the dot too big). But for general plinking I feel they are too expensive and I typically will use the Primary Arms aimpoint T1 copy for ~$150. That model has been more reliable for me than the Bushnell TRS-25. It can also be easier to find the dot on a tube style sight when mounted on a handgun.

Dr. Optic with a 3.5 moa dot on Ruger Mark II Target.

I'm still faster with irons. I have a hard time finding the dot in any pistol sized sight. Training time is needed.

I may try a tube style, but I'm young enough irons are still plenty good enough and I'm starting to question on why I'm trying to make it more complicated.

    Now for the FF3...
