Rifle Scopes Burris XTR 1-4 feedback

Hey all, I am looking into purchasing a Burris xtr 1-4x for my ar, mainly for the use of general plinking, some competition, and a reliable optic when I hit the woods this season. I am all about versatility when it comes to purchasing stuff (mainly because i dont grow money trees) so I would like to know if there are any more suggestions that anyone can give towards a good general purpose short range optic.

The Burris is an excellent choice. The one inch Leupold Mark 4 is about the same money and the 30mm model is a bit more.

Another option is the burris tac-30.

Other options in the price range are the Leatherwood 1-4, the falcom 1.5-5 and the millet dms.

Either of the burris options is a far better scope than the millet, though there are many satisfied owners of the dms (quite a few dis-satisfied also)

The newest and greatest is the Burris Mtac. It has a reostat for the illumination adjustment (instead of the push button) and a ring for variable adjustment instead of the whole eyepiece turning like on the earlier models. I have had one for a couple of weeks and a couple of matches and it is GREAT.

It is a better scope (for competition use) and more than half the price of the illuminated Leupold. $0.02

THe Burris XTR 1-4 is a good optic, it holds zero and the newest version fixed the problem the last version had of eating batteries. Good solid choice.

I have a 1-4 XTR. I'm really happy with it. I was also considering a Trijicon TR24G. I like the hold overs built into the Burris as opposed to the single aiming point on the Trijicon. Glass is clear. The clicks could be a bit more positive, but once the scope is zeroed you shouldn't need to touch them, and they are covered.

I was shooting 200 yards with it the other day and was able to stack rounds on top of one another. Plenty of clarity, and fine enough reticle to do it. The large circle is nice for close up fast acquisition. Truly a dual purpose optic for me.

I was leaning towards this same optic so I'm glad to see that people have had good experiences with it, one question though, what are the differences between the XTR and the MTAC

Great choice.

To answer the question about the XTR: I just got off the phone with the local rep, he told me the XTR is a higher-end scope with less edge to edge distortion, more clarity, more robust, different reticle, etc. where the Mtac is designed as a budget conscious full featured competition scope. Burris employs competition shooters and they are working hard to bring well thought out, affordable scopes to market. They are doing a great job with the Tac30/Mtac for 3-gun and the soon to be available Steiners for long range. Good luck!

i wonder why the higher end scope has less "user friendly" features, like the push button illumination. the mtac features a traversing magnification ring like a traditional scope unlike the xtr. both look like reliable products, and combined with their qd mount and their fast fire red dot, getting on targets of different size and distance seems manageable.

The XTR has a rotating rheostat on the left side for illumination intensity, not push button.

And to be honest, I have the fast fire and rarely use it.

I had the Burris XTR 1-4 but replaced it with Trijicon 1-4 which I like much more. The Burris is clear but I did not like the recticle and the illum. setting were useless for me.
