WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- Rachel Holley loves going to Busch Gardens. She enjoys the Williamsburg theme park so much, she buys an annual pass so she can make unlimited visits each season.

But that tradition may be coming to an end after a recent incident at the park.

"I felt like a criminal," the 24-year-old Virginia Beach woman said after a security guard would not allow her into the park last Friday.

The issue, she was told, was her t-shirt.

"[I was told] if a kid were to see this shirt, they might think that guns are OK," she recalled.

On the front of the shirt, the word "Handguns" is written in a cartoon font.

The back also displayed the word "Handguns," along with an image from the kids' cartoon Rugrats.

The shirt, for the punk band Handguns, was deemed inappropriate for children to see and a violation of park dress code, she said she was told.

Rachel said she was told she had to leave the park and come back in a new shirt if she wanted entry that day. When she asked if she could simply turn the shirt inside out, she said she was told "no."

Rachel said she left the park, bought a new shirt, and was ultimately allowed into Busch Gardens for the day.

"I found it hypocritical," she explained. "As soon as I walked into the park and saw [other t-shirts and toy weapons for sale] that were the same level, if not worse than what I had on my shirt."

The Busch Gardens dress code posted online offered the following guidance:

In keeping with the family image of Busch Gardens®, guests must wear appropriate clothing while in the park. Shirts, shoes, and pants must be worn at all times. Clothing with suggestive or explicit language or insulting statements is not allowed. Busch Gardens reserves the right to refuse admission or ask anyone to leave who is not in compliance with these rules.

When asked to comment specifically on Rachel Holley's case, a park spokesperson offered the following statement:

"We are committed to fostering a safe, family atmosphere in our parks, including the dress code policy noted. One of the responsibilities of our security officers is to determine the appropriateness of guest attire and considering potentially offensive pictures or words printed on clothing is a major factor in their assessment. We are looking into this situation and have been in contact with the guest."

Holley confirmed she had been in contact with park security who told her they were investigating her concerns.

"If I do go back to the park, I’m definitely going to think about what I’m going to wear," she conceded. "I don't want to through that again."

I wonder how theyll feel when I show up in one of these. ....

Meh, non-issue, non-news worthy. Just like Frank can ban anyone for words they say. Any private private business can do such things.

The Constitution/Bill of rights are rules for the Government to follow. They actually don't apply to 50% of what you do all day.

Just another Snowflake or SJW if you ask me. I mean how does this make the news? The only way is that she makes a call to the news agency because she feels slighted and wants to don her SJW hero costume. And the News prints it cause they like to stir shit, they will stir water until it becomes shit.

Her shirt might be slightly different, if it actually refers to a band. But there is no way you would wear the shirt Maggot posted without the idea you might offend someone. Would I wear it yes, I have many shirts along those lines. Around here it is a non-issue. But back to offending someone, on a public street oh well. In a private business you could be asked to leave.

Now if she was on Government property that is an issue.

People on all sides need to not get their panties in a bunch over such frivolous shit all the time.

The Busch Gardens here in Tampa doesn't care about nonsense like that.
I've seen plenty of hunting and shooting related shirts there.

They will turn away drug related clothing.

Sounds like she might have had an anti 2A Paul Blart.

Now if ya really want to offend....

But a baker can't refuse to make a cake for a queer wedding.

Yea, i posted my comments about that previously. One i support the business owner. 2nd another SJW, that takes that to the damn supreme court. Tell the baker to fuck off and either find another baker OR in true American fashion open your own bakery right across the street.

It's a matter of what constitutes reasonable accommodation. Large institutions don't have much latitude on refusal of service if every Tom, Dick, and Harry who shows up should be allowed to enter under normal circumstances. I've been refused accommodation a few times and had to go the legal route to address it. Not for penalties or monetary compensation, mind you, just to make sure that those like me enjoy equal access.

Now, if you go in there, sit down in a café, and bite a piece of strudel into the shape of a Mauser HSc, your ass might be toast. Just sayin' ...
