Now that I have the ability to rotate butt pad clockwise or counter clockwise I was wanting to see what’s common and the reason why you go that direction? Or should I just leave it straight up an down? Love to here some feedback on this adjustment. Yes I did search this topic butt mainly found info on up and down movement.
I was a long time American skeet shooter and there is probably no group more obsessed with gun fit. Almost any gun you see at a major tournament will have an adjustable comb (cheek piece, yeah) and either a custom made stock with appropriate drop at comb and toe out (many of which look like a boat oar) or more commonly an adjustable butt pad.
For almost all men, to have a good fit you will want to rotate the pad to move the toe out to the side you shoot from (i.e. a right hander will move the toe to the right....counterclockwise...when behind the gun) in order to have it seat properly in your shoulder pocket.
Now, this is for a sport that is all high gun (mounted), off hand, shooting where the gun's orientation to vertical is assured by proper gun fit. long range rifles...well, seems a bit different with bipods, bags, various positions, bubble levels, whatever.
I would suggest you experiment with the pad with the various positions you plan to shoot. As mentioned above, a pad that may fit well into your shoulder pocket in a standing position against a barricade may well not be comfortable in a prone position and you may have to try to split the difference.
Cheers
