Anyone have one of these? I saw it on their website and wasn't sure about the color scheme. Does it look better in person? If you have one, how is it shooting?

I'm going to the local Cabela's tomorrow to check one out, but thought I'd ask first to see if anyone else had one.

I'm not F/T with them any more, but happy to help get you hooked up any way I can.

POF has rifles Duracoated to Cabela's specs for their stores. I think they sell for under MSRP too. If the color is a scheme you like, deinitely go with them.

If the Cabela's version isn't the way you'd like to go, POF is dealer direct sales, and you can have your favorite FFL give a call and get you what ever you like.

Thanks for the responses.

I went to Cabela's and looked at the 20" 'Hunter' 308 model. It was in pretty sad shape. The paint was flaking off everywhere. Someone didn't prepare it for paint correctly, because it had nice shiny black coating underneath. The color scheme looked good to me, but whomever did the duracoating, needs to go back to paint school!

Also the buffer spring stop was missing, so when I opened it up, the buffer and spring came out like a jack-in-the-box. It was quite exciting for me and the Cabela's employee.

Other than that, it looked good. I guess if I decide to go with the POF, it won't have a Cabela's paint job.

There's another store in town that has a REPR, that I'm going to go look at.

Steelhead,
That's unfortunate that the example Cabela's has on their shelf is in that shape. They buy rifles to a contracted spec, and the aftermarket duracoat is part of that. The buffer detent pin missing is a mystery-I know POF's assembly practices, and can't see one going out the door like that.
Hopefully tou can get your hands on a POF 308 that is more representative of what the rifles are than your Cabela's experience. I forwarded a copy of this thread to the posers powers that be at POF, hopefully they can lean on Cabelas to help maintain the QC from factory to customer.

So far I've yet to see another semi win a major sniper/precision rifle event like Nomad did with his POF in Oregon earlier this year. You should also look at the Group buy scottmilk9 (POF-USA) has going on 6.5 Creedmoor POF's currently. If I was looking to buy a precision semi platform right now, that's where I'd go.

Sobrbiker883,

Thanks for the link. I did see that group buy going on and it is very tempting. I've been looking at getting me something in the 6.5/260 relm and this just might be the ticket.

Do you know if the POF's run well with a suppressor?

LIKE A CHAMP!! I have different ARs that I run suppressed, mostly DI guns, but the POF is just the cat's meow. It shoots cleaner for much longer than my comparable DI guns, maintains excellent accuracy even under sustained suppressed shooting, and is just a pleasure to shoot suppressed.

As for your troubles at Cabelas...please don't let that sway your decision about POF. It is a shame that a major retailer like Cabelas can't keep a rifle on the shelf looking any better and keep wandering hands from breaking or swiping bits and pieces from them. That is a Cabelas issue and NOT a POF issue from my experience with these rifles.

I, along with many other folks here, are faithful POF owners/operators. They are extremely well-made, reliable and accurate rifles. The folks at POF, including Frank...the owner...are very much dedicated to the serving the shooting public and law enforcement and they not only support their customers, but they support the shooting sports that we are all engaged in in one way or another. You won't find a finer group of folks backing a company and who are regular posters here and on other sites around the Internet. If you have a question/concern/or God forbid a problem...someone will address it quickly and professionally to ensure that you are happy with their products.

If you run a search of POF rifles here on the Hide, you'll get numerous range reports, CS examples and other information that will assist you in answering any questions or concerns you might have.

Good luck on yoru search for a POF...I hope you find what you are looking for.

Re: Cabela's POF 308 20" hunter?

Good to hear on the suppressor, thanks!

I haven't let the Cabela's example sway my decision at all. POF is still in the running as I've heard way too many good things about these rifles, than bad. I will say that the salesman had nothing but good to say about the rifle and that he had friends with POF's that were extremely happy. He looked up what other Cabela stores had in stock and said that he'd be happy to bring one in from the other stores or do a special order for me.
