Re: Cabelas swiping driver's licenses
It's called business folks, get used to it and stop whining. Don't like it, don't shop there. I love how people complain that they want the lowest prices AND great customer service, but when Cabelas does something to help protect this you all start crying foul.
Let me explain how and why this works, I got to witness a fine example of the drivers license scanning just the other day.
Woman walks in to a local store, has a Sonicare tooth brush, some fancy cream and other items. Totals about $150 worth of stuff, but darn it she lost her receipt. So, they say no problem, we can return it for you....just need your DL. Now here's where it gets good, they take said DL and enter it in the computer: "Well madam, it appears you returned $125 worth of stuff to another one of our stores just 15 miles from here yesterday AND you had no receipt there either". So, do you think this lady was an honest shopper and happened to buy stuff at two stores and then lose both receipts? Let me get this one for you....NO. She was a thief, a scammer, etc etc.
Now you say, but I had a receipt...why scan mine? Thanks to all the damn lawyers out there if you don't scan every DL and treat everyone just the same, then you sued for discrimination or some stupid deal like that.
While I'm not a fan of DL scanning, I see the business purpose of it and I accept it. They are trying to protect their business interests and I can't blame them for that.
Want a place to buy stuff where the prices are low and they'll never scan your DL, let me give you a secret web address.

Also, to keep costs low, they can use the DL to focus marketing mailings, etc. They could buy an address list, mail to 50,000 people and have 45,000 of them throw the ad away. OR.... they could simply send 5,000 mailers to the 5,000 people they know are their customers and get 100% hit rate on the advertising. Again, keeping costs down and prices lower.
