Thought this might help others who could be looking for info like I was.

I know I'm a FNG to the site, but I looked for a while over the course of 2 days & couldn't find all this information.

Lilja Precision Rifle Barrels

Shilen Rifles

Just for the heck of it.... if anyone in the Ohio or surrounding areas wants to share info regarding the fine art of long range shooting & 7MM Rem Mag. Please by all means PM me.

x2

The Shilen is especially handy.

Re: Caliber & Twist rate charts

Thanks. I'm very glad I could maybe post something to help out others in my position.

I'm going to be very hard on myself with long range shooting as I really want to be able to hit 1000yds on a regular basis and do it well. Therefore I went out to find all the info I possibly could. I'm looking to pick up a 700 ADL chambered in 7mm Rem Mag, so I needed to know what was safe to put down the pipe at over 3000 ft/sec without killing my barrel.

Have the action trued. Screw on a good barrel with a 1:8.5 twist and run the Berger 180gr. Match Hybrid Target with a BC of 0.674 It'll go beyond 1000 by a long ways.

So dump the 1:9.25 barrel that it comes with huh? Damn. That will take a little time after I get going and just get used to the 7mm first.

Thanks!

The 1:9.25 will probably shoot the 180gr Berger fine, you'll have enough velocity.
And don't dump the barrel without truing the action for there would be no gain.
I'd at least shoot the thing first like you mentioned. Here's the bad news, anything over 3000fps is going to chew your throat up and the long magnums heat up fast.
If you haven't bought yet, do some research on the 7mm shorts, better target guns. Browse through the ELR forum here, there are some guys laying down some good info.

Yeah, haven't started yet. So I'm not exactly sure what bullet I'm even going to choose for the longer distances. I have rifle & scope chosen and will be purchasing those before the year is out. I was thinking of shooting the Rem 7mm Scirocco Bonded, but I see so many people shooting different things...maybe a Hornady AMAX.

For now it will be all short distance once I get the rifle so I can get the basics down. Probably won't be til May of '12 before I see 600+ yardage. So I have some time.
