Fieldcraft Camo options other than spray paint or dip

Im looking at camo options for my RPR rifle thats not permanent. No spray cans or dips. I need camo options for my state's advanced observer sniper course in October. I know part of it will include a stalk.

Two options are camo foam tape and vinyl wraps. Does anyone have any experience with these options? Im afraid that the tape will not last long at all for stalking and the wrap may not work well with how the Ruger is shaped. Any thoughts or opinions woild be helpful.

I have thought about this too. I like the idea of blending in when I am hunting but dont want a bunch of rubbed off spray paint and hokey looking stuff at the range. Would just wrapping it in fabric work? Then you could just paint the fabric, or attach foliage, or get the fabric good and dirty and it may get nice and earthy??? I dont have any experience with this sort of thing but it seems like about the only other option outside of camo tape, paint, or full on cerakote. Face paint would probably just make a mess. Curious to see what others have for ideas.

Course outline for Indiana Advanced Police Observer/Sniper Course (Unless changed from Q4 2018) says Ghillie construction will be a subject/section of the course, so more than likely you could get by with construction of a rifle ghillie to break up the color and outline of the rifle for stalk exercise. Says movement will be in low weeds over 1/4 mile or longer but does not say how close you have to get to your target.

Thanks Theis. My idea was thinking ahead. I know instructors at the basic class said black rifles stood out and thr foam tape was one suggestion.

I have used McNett camo tape on many items under harsh conditions. It has always held on and held up. Moreover, it has come off without harm to the item it was on.

I wrapped a spotting scope with Allen Camo Tape and that seems like it will hold up but a cylinder is about the easiest thing to wrap.

It's cheap enough that you can re-tape if it starts peeling.

I think it looks ok but it's a bit specific, it's not going to blend in everywhere.

How does the tape hold up to the heat on the barrel?

Not much heat on my spotting scope but I would probably just wrap the stock/chassis and leave the barrel painted.

I have some surplus desert camo mesh, I would probably cut out a ragged shape and drape it over the barrel if I was trying to hide in a desert and didn't want anything cooked on the barrel. I don't know how effective it would be but hopefully better than nothing.

I’ve used McNett Camo Form tape before and thought it was a quality product. I’m partial to Cerakote though

Paint it and shoot it with brake cleaner when you're done. Think, your life depends on blending in, how far would go?

I opted to try the vinyl wrap. I'll see how durable it is over the next few months. I'll probably try a few things to break up the remaining areas that are still black. Heres a pic.

I have grown to like camo ripped from vehicle covers/blinds.
-Easy to put on and take off
-Easy to change colors, keep tan and OD with you.
-3D (!!)
-Reusable, no need to carry many cans of paint etc for varying conditions.
-You probably need to buy a blind and rip some off. I gathered mine from the ground at vehicle parks.

That moment gives chills when you go to your target and turn back and you can't see your gun until few seconds later because of the camo...
