can anyone name the specific rifle William Holden has?

In one of these trailers William Holden is in a scene with Susanna York. He is packing what looks to be either a Mauser or a Mannlicher (Schoenauer?). I read someplace once that, that particular rifle was one of his favorite hunting rifles. But, I've yet to find out exactly what it was. Anyone got any idea of what specifically his rifle is?

Looks like a generic Mauser sporting gun, but given that it was set in Malaya during the troubles, may well be a British Custom. Suggest Rigby at the top of the list... on a Mauser action.

But can't say for sure. Google turns up nothing!

I'll ask my friends at the NRA museum if they know.... I've never seen this movie... It's on my list!

It's not a magazine tube. I'm pretty sure it's the sling and attachment to the barrel.

But, you're screen shot there shows the bolt handle in a position the Mauser would be, not where the Mannlicher Schoenauer is when closed. So, all I can tell for now is it appears to be a Mauser Sporter. A lot of variety in that option still. Same with the Mannlicher-Schoenauer. What cartridge was it chambered for, who made it etc.

Zoom in on the first picture and you can see the worn-silver cross-bolt action mounting screw in the action.

I'm putting my money on a Rigby dangerous game rifle. Col Ferris (in the book he was a retired Sgt major, I think, in the book) was a wealthy planter. He'd have had something from London.
