I'm trying to learn more about this style of mount, I'm assuming for a bipod, and the pros/cons of attaching things this way. The stock is unknown. Do any of you have any knowledge to share on the subject? Thank you for any help.
As noted above, it appears to be a McMillan A2 set up for a Remington 700 with the factory DBM, that's why there are cut outs in the side of the stock.
Wow. I appreciate the input from everyone. That's a lot of great info very quickly. I hadn't heard of a bipod spigot. Are there any advantages to this in today's era?
It pushed the bipod out farther for a little more stability and keeps the bottom slick when shooting off a bag. However, it also means that the bipod can only go in one location, which isn’t always ideal and you’re limited to one brand of bipod.
Looks like a spigot for a versapod. As others mentioned, lowers CG, keeps forend clean for riding a bag or ruck, and also is extremely qd(push a latch and slide off, slide on till it clicks).
