I was planning on painting a rifle. Is the bolt easy enough to disassemble that I can do it without too much difficulty or do I need special tools?

It is a Winchester M70 push feed bolt.

I was going to use duracoat. Are there parts of the bolt that absolutely shouldn't be painted?

You may be able to do without a tool, but it makes life simpler if you have a bolt disassembler. Depending on the shape of the bolt end, you just have to pick the appropriate one. Midway USA have them.

push the little button on side of bolt shroud and turn.
First you have put the safety on before removing the bolt in order to hold the firing pin back. This will remove the fireing pin assembly from the bolt body. Very, very simple.

To be safe, don't paint anything that you can't see externally. This includes the crown although I have seen the crown painted many times. Put an expanding ear plug in the bore or something. No chamber, firing pin, inside bolt body, bolt face, bolt lugs, magazine, ect.... You can paint a factory bolt. All I have seen on win or rem have plenty clearence for paint.

Prepping is the key to a good paint job.
