Gunsmithing Can I use Rem 700 LA BDL for the 6.5 Creedmoor?

I already have a nice stainless .270 Rem 700 LA BDL donor rifle. I was wondering if even the longest VLD 130 and 140 grain bullets seated far out of the 6.5 Creedmoor case would still not justify using a long action. (?)

If using a long action is just going to be totally unecessary when a SA would properly feed and extract even the longest 6.5 Creedmoor cartridges in repeater mode, then I'll just dump my LA rifle and get me a SA rifle instead.

Yes it will work , if the bolt face is correct
if differant bolt face then you will need a new bolt.

The Army's M24 308's were built on long actions

The creedmore case is the perfect length so that you can seat the longest VLD bullets to not have the bullet shank protruding below the neck and the rounds fit within the typical 2.8xx overall length restrictions of most box magazines.
There is no advantage to be gained with a long action...

Absolutely then when the 6.5 Creedmoor peters out you can easily swap out to a 25/06 30/06 338/06 270 280 or whatever you want on the same bolt face. One huge advantage of running a LA in a SA caliber is that parts house almost always have LA parts in stock and that will reduce turn around on your new chambering if you are adding a DBM or a new stock etc. If you are doing the work yourself most of the parts you want will be in-stock

Thanks gents. I assume my 270 Win bolt face is the "same bolt face" as with any other cartride in this family of 30-06, 308, 243, 22-250, or 6.5CM cases.......and should work.

If you go with the LA you could do a 6.5 x 55 or a 6.5 x 284 both would be a better fit for a LA

I've firmly chosen the 6.5 Creedmoor. (I don't want a 6.5x55 or other)I've already bought a new Rem 700 SA in .308 as the donor rifle.

Are you saying that the factory BDL box magazine in this .308 SA 700 BDL will not feed properly? If that's the case, I'm willing to buy a detachable magazine. Which brand DM do you recommend I buy. These DM magazine add-ons are all new gadgets to me.

Your original question was about a LA Rem. I didn't know you switched actions. SA will work fine.

Sorry for the confusion Dave. Since I opened this thread, it seems the overwhelming consensus is that the standard 6.5 CM cartridge OAL dimensions and reamer to produce the chamber is all I would need. Initially I thought I might want to produce a chamber with a 140 VLD seated way out of the case using a custom reamer which would possibly necessitate an LA action. Now I've realized I should just go with the original cartridge design dimensions and leave it alone.
