I helped a friend (and Hide member) with a few gun-related things today and he happened to bring out his AR-10 with Gemtech HVT (QD-mount.)
It was a nice looking setup. As I usually do (for fear of something terrible happening), I asked if he had looked down the barrel with the can on. He said, "no" and proceeded to pull the bolt and take a look - and we were both surprised by what we saw:
Looking down the bore, all is as it should be, till you get to the can, then, looking from chamber to muzzle, we see baffles on the left side of the field of view. So, either the Armalite barrel is not threaded right, or the QD adapter isn't threaded right, or the can isn't sitting right on the adapter.
I have a 6.8 with the same thread and he has another adapter, we'll do some experimenting and see if a solution becomes obvious. My hope (and his) is that the adapter is a the problem - since it is the easiest problem to fix. If it's the rifle, it'll need to be re-threaded. If it's the can, his 5-month wait for the Form 4 will be extended to 5 months + whatever it takes Gemtech to fix it.
Note to new can users: ALWAYS look down the bore prior to the first shot with a new suppressor/gun setup. Not doing so may be the kind of learning experience that ends all future learning experiences.
