I have a Nightforce 2.5 x 10x 24 with an NP1 reticle.

My question is this. The turrets have a cover over them but they're obviously adjustable turrets. If I'm meant to be able to start turning knobs to adjust dope on the fly why do they put covers on them? Is it meant for me to be twisting turrets on it?

Also, the horizontal hash marks are so small that it's almost impossible to tell when I'm back at zero or if I'm one full turn away or past it.

What's the best way to keep track of my zero?

Its an option to use for engaging certain distances. Using the reticle is your primary. I would probably want covers on my carbine optic, mainly because I dont have to worry about my turret moving from zero when I am in the "field".

Note, in your case having an NP-1, not as useful for engaging as the NP-R1.

If i understand your problem - you are not resetting the turrets to zero after having 'zeroed the optic'. If the 'covers' have indicating hashmarks then they are meant to be removable i.e resettable so that you can zero the optic to the rifle and load.

No, the turrets have covers that screw on and keep you from being able to turn the knobs to adjust for Wind and elevation.

If I need to make adjustments, I need to take the covers off and risk losing them in the field.

I was thinking that most people just use the reticle within a few hundred yards but the NP1 is basically worthless for that.

The hash marks are so hard to read if I start cranking my knobs around its hard to remember or find which one was my zero. I would imagine a zero stop would make a big difference.

you have the covered turret setup which isnt seen to often here. it pretty much like any other conventional scope without exposed turrets, there more for set and forget/hunting, not dialing up and down

Re: Can someone explain my Nightforce scope to me?

Yeah, that's pretty much meant to be a set and almost forget sort of thing. In other words, you have the ability to zero your scope and then set your turrets to zero so that you know where your zero is. When you get out in the field and have an idea of what you need to dial in, you can do that and still return to your zero later. It is NOT meant for "on the fly" adjustments as you might do with a "sniper" scope.

I just zeroed mine and then used a paint pen to mark a line on the turrets to coincide with the bottoms of the dials. That way, I know where the zero is. You can always send it in to Nightforce and have the zero stop elevation turret installed. Unfortunately, they can't/won't add the zero stop to the windage adjustment and you really can't hold for windage with the NP-1 reticle. Well, you might be able to, but I certainly can't.

Re: Can someone explain my Nightforce scope to me?

That's what I was figuring. I currently have it mounted on an LWRC 20 inch REPR which seemed like a good match but it seems suited for work under 400 yards or so....not as much because of the 10x zoom factor but just turning knobs for further ranges are just too much of a hassle.

I just bought a 3.5x15x50 with zero stop that I think is a better fit for the rifle.

I'm gonna put the 2.5x10 on my 20 inch DMR instead.
