Is it possible/advisable to replace the LMT gas block on an LMT 6.5 CM barrel with an adjustable block? Is this something a smith could do or is the block welded or something similar? If it is possible is there anyone who specializes in this?

Thanks

@unclemoak can take care of it.

They’re pressed on and from what I’ve heard the gas port distance from the shoulder is standard so most adjustable blocks will work.

Black river tactical ez tune gas tube is another option.

Yes, this is possible to swap a fixed LMT factory gas block for an adjustable.

Here's one I did on an MRP barrel. The reasoning is because the barrel itself is overgassed, that coupled with the AEM5, it's obnoxious.

This particular one is a newer SLR one that uses straight tubes and has changeable gas jets. I would recommend using an Superlative Arms adjustable gas block if it is going to end up inside the rail. It's one of the few on the market with a compact and symmetric size that actually fits inside an LMT rail.

Cool! That looks great.

I know this thread is a few months old but I ran into this same issue back around 2014 with my MWS. I sent in my barrel to LMT and they removed the pressed on gas block at no charge, I was then able to use an SLR AGB without issue - well other than getting the whole system to work properly when suppressed - I have been told the newer rifles work better suppressed. Regardless, you can contact LMT and ask - they have excellent customer service (at least they used to as it's been a while since I've had to interact with them).
