Is this a new setting that was pushed by my host(I can't be the only person behind this firewall)? It might be one of the few I can change. It did work on Wednesday, but died yesterday. If you want details I can PM them.

try it now, this has nothing to do with the site servers, but the forum software that IE8 doesn't play well with others.
I have a line of code inserted that is meant to fix most issues with IE8, but I have went ahead and added a second line.
It's nothing I can do about it, other that what has been done. IE8 just doesn't work right with this software.
Use Firefox, it is a better browser anyway and there are no known problems

I've had my own issues with firefox, but that's not relevant to this. Are you certain this is an IE8 thing though and not a more specific restriction unique to my big brother?

Vista64 + IE8 (WoW, not 64) is kosher @ home. I think it's more specific to a setting the Army has locked down.
