i have only heard a little bit about these new carbon fiber barrels. they seem the to be pretty sweet and amazingly light.but im just wondering whats so great about them. also a store called wolverine in red deer alberta they had a rifle and i believe i was the TAC 21 remigton chassis in 300 rum with a carbon barrel. when i seen this gun i knew i had to have it, unfortunatly money does not grow on trees for me and i was wondering where i could find a carbon barrel, bolt and trigger package that would fit into the chassis.

Re: carbon barrels

thanx alot just one more question. would you know of any other chassis framesfor a 308. i know of the MDT tac 21 and the xlr evolution but im just trying to explore all my options before i go ahead with my plans.

If you want it threaded, you also need to get it made with the thread. Same for if you plan to shoot suppressed (slightly different wrap). A steel barrel you can mod it afterwards but with the CF barrels, you need to think hard about all the features you want upfront.

Re: carbon barrels

Talking to Matt Burkett at TPRC and he said the mirage off the barrel is BRUTAL. If you notice the TPRC pics, in the later stages he had a makeshift mirage shield.

Re: carbon barrels

There is alot of negatives to a carbon wrap barrel. If not done correctly(ABS satern barrel insert) the barrel liner is actually insulated from the air cooling effect and can just be shot to death while the outer surface is still cool to the touch. The only major advantage is in it's light weight for a carry rifle. I think that unless some newer process comes along it will be the next moly-coated bullet. Seriously go to any long range or benchrest match and count the carbon's, you won't need many fingers to do it!

Where are you getting your info/data from? Please post the links where this info was obtained. We'd all like to see it. Also, one of the reason you don't see many abs wrapped barrels at benchrest comps is because of the cost. Those guys may only shoot a barrel one season (or less).
