Carbon fiber barrels

Does anyone have any information on the paradigm carbon barrels and in comparison with Proof carbon barrels? I think Paradigm barrels are made or come from rockcreek barrels. Also Patriot Valley Arms sell them.
I can’t find any info on Paradigm and if they are any good or not.
Any information is appreciated!

Rock Creek blanks is what I’ve seen as well from a couple of reputable sources. I’d give them a try due to the excellent success I’ve had with 8-9 Rocks so far.

They will mirage, that's inevitable. They shed heat a lot better than proof as they run less steel, & less resin. I talked with Matt @ Paradigm at length yesterday. They have an amazing rem 700 sa footprint stock available too, it weighs 1# however it's very expensive. I may try one them as well, I'm not sure.

Is there any advantage or disadvantages with less steel other than weigh? I’m curious about strength and accuracy. Also with less steel, will paradigm barrels wear out faster?

I'd like them to explain it to me. Proof barrels mirage excessively because of how conductive the material is. In the early days of CF barrels they would hold heat because the type of CF used was a insulator. The reason I asked is because if the Paradigm barrels are holding heat in the liner you're going to burn out the barrel faster. Up to this point Proof has been the only CF barrel maker I've seen with consistent quality that doesn't retain heat and once hot doesn't walk.

Excellent that Paradigm is going to put more info out there. Their website is lacking at best. Someone needs to do some comparison shootouts on these carbon barrels Just saw this after looking at Oregon Mountain Rifle Company Carbon barrels. Lots of other carbon barrels either coming to market or becoming more prominent. I have 4 proof barrels and all shoot fantastic so I am cautious to try anything else out but the blanks and prefits from Carbon Six or Oregon Mountain and now Paradigm and others are tempting for the same price or less. I have a couple rifles that will be getting new carbon barrels this year. One a 6.5PRC heavy palma is a great shooter still but the barrel weight really limits it when thinking about any backpack use.

Proof barrels have a higher resin content therefore they hold heat in more. As does the traight of having a thicker steel liner. The more carbon fiber you can have the faster heat will leave the steel and dissipate outward. I personally think proof barrels appear to be cool for so many shots due to them keeping heat below the surface not because they shed it so efficiently. I have 6 rifles w/ proof carbons. I've used them a lot. Paradigm will be releasing video of them testing theirs vs proof, thermal image video, you'll see the efficiency that they have in getting heat out the liner to the carbon and to the surface.

This is counter to my experience. I used a IR thermometer to measure the heat of the steel chamber on several proof barrels and after 10 shots the steel was cooler than the carbon fiber wrap. There has been more BS surrounding CF barrels over the years that I will not take the word of random person on the internet. Do you have a citation or third party resource that substantiates your assertion about the types of CF or even the types/processes of CF used by the two manufacturers?

Well I am glad proof has competition. This will propel each company to improve their product, and keep cost and wait times in check. Healthy competition is always great for me the consumer.

So per Paradigm social media....FWIW they are not selling to individual consumers; only to "dealers" which is kind of odd being the industry as a whole is swinging to direct to consumer as possible.

I have proof, Christensen, and hells canyon carbon barrels. The proof stays the coolest the the touch the longest, this makes me think its holding the most heat inside. I've also noticed they keep heat towards the chamber end whereas the others have appeared more evenly dispersed. I know I'm just some guy on the internet, however Proof is 10 mins down the street, I've toured their facility. I'm a proud Montanian, and if I thought they were superior, damn right I'd spend my money in the back yard. Paradigm barrels will perform, at least I hope! I have several coming. Their barrels are just getting to the point of shipment. Most of their barrels will be faster than normal twist to caliber for the FLM solid copper bullets their bringing out. Competition is a good thing for the industry. If they suck big weiner I'll own up to it, as I put my money where my mouth is. I think they're the leader in carbon tech right now. Call Matt at paradigm and talk to him, he's a pretty knowledgeable dude.

You never answered my question and supported you assertion. Carbon is less conductive than steel, not more. What you're saying about the concentration of carbon being the reason this new barrel is more conductive than Proof is counter to information publicly available. Proof has specifically stated their conductivity is a direct result of their epoxy composition. My understanding is that ceramic epoxy developed in aerospace conducts heat as opposed to the carbon fiber itself.

Again, if you have some support for what you're claiming I'd like to see it. If this new barrel isn't conducting heat then it is insulating it. There's no free lunch, either the heat is staying in the liner or it isn't. Mirage would be an indicator of thermal conduction.

Matt at Long Ways Brass (one of the owners of Paradigm) is a helluva guy and you honestly can’t beat the customer service. I’d recommend doing business with him anytime. If you ever have an issue he’ll make it right. That’s his whole deal. He wants you to be happy with whatever you buy from him. He also doesn’t want to sell you or anyone a POS. Call him and talk to him. He knows what he’s talking about and he’ll hook you up.

Bartlein just announced they are now going to start producing carbon fiber barrels too.

No one into precision seems to talk about BSF Barrels, but they also produce high quality carbon fiber barrels, and theirs are unique. They use them essentially to provide extra stiffness/tension on pencil profile barrels, and the carbon portion is vented to allow the steel to vent heat faster. This might be bad for mirage, but works great at keeping the barrel accuracy consistent even when the barrel gets hot.

PVA has made promises/deadlines and expectations in the past to get people waiting in line money down, and then take forever to deliver, if they deliver. I waited 4 months for a comp 40 tripod, been waiting several weeks for some of the new monolithic hunting bullets, they just don't understand the frustration a consumer has after they've put money down, said delivery date roles past and you wait and wait with nothing. They make good products and promises, however to fill em they'd probably need to hire 40% more people.

Not to mention the John Hancock rifle fiasco. I personally won’t do business with pva even if they had the best prices and latest stuff.

Yeah mine wouldn't shoot for shit unless I let it cool for a few mins between rounds. They sent a replacement but I hadn't done anything with it. I've been very happy with the carbon wrapped rock creek and mullerworks barrels from Pederson Precision. And they're only 600$. Any twist rate you want and turn around has only been 30-60 days.

Did all 4 of your Paradigm barrels suck?

I to, have a Mullerworks barrel carbon wrapped by Pederson Precision! A 6.5 PRC built By Matt With a TL3 Action and AG composite stock. I cannot say enough good stuff about Pederson Precision, the rifle shoots spot on and his attention to detail pays off. Highly recommend!
