I have a Boyds Tacticool stock on now that came with a (sweet) black textured finish. I have wood stocks, but this is my first painted one. How do I care for it? Do I just let it be? Since the paint is basically a type of plastic, do I use armorall on it or something like that? Thanks for any input.

LOL! Here too. Actually the stock paint from Boyd's is pretty tough. You can hit it with some ultra flat clear Krylon, but that will still eventually wear.

Re: Caring for Painted Stock

I got one in green that turned out to be that putrid mint green and not OD.Hit it with Krylon Ultra Flat Black and it has held up better than I would have believed.I carry it as a Truck/Car gun for small game so it gets banged around a little and it still looks great.I would just shoot it,enjoy it,and spray it with Krylon when it starts showing wear.

It's paint, not neutronium. Paint wears. When it gets bad enough, strip it and repaint it. Meantime, Clear Satin Varathane covers kinda nicely.

I know that personally, I am planning on having my stock cerakoted. There's a link on the NIC website that shows the nearest place to your location that does it. And I may be wrong, but I think its only like $50 to do the stock and that stuff will never chip, crack or wear. It's worth it to protect your investment

Be prepared to be disappointed... cerakote will indeed wear but it is still WELL worth the money.

Nice. I had my bolt done and it was about that much. I'll definitely check it out. I may end up just doing that after it's worn out enough. I ask because I plan on having this rifle for a very long time.
