We are having a big BBQ after the match. You are welcome to camp both Friday and Saturday night. If you camp Saturday we may open up the range and do a small night shoot seminar and possibly do a little shooting on Sunday morning before shutting everything down.

If you have any questions please ask them here or shoot me an email or PM.

Re: Carolina Sniper Golf 17 Mar 2012.

Sounds fun.

Can you go into the course of fire in more detail? Also, any limitations on gun or equipment (mechanical rest, f-class bi-pods, weight or stock restriction other than caliber)? Will there be time restrictions or quick follow-ups?

Just trying to fiqure out what would be the best rifle to bring.

Also, any reparation to the top shooters or is it just for the glory!

Thanks

Re: Carolina Sniper Golf 17 Mar 2012.

there is one of these places near Salt Lake City, UT. I would love to give it a shot. Sounds like a great time.

Re: Carolina Sniper Golf 17 Mar 2012.

Most shots will be between 300 and 650 yds, most targets will be between 2 and 3 MOA. Most stages will have reasonable time restrictions just to keep people from bogging down, a few stages will have time restrictions designed to be a stressor. There won't be anything where having gas vs bolt would be a distinct advantage or disadvantage. There's absolutely no reason you couldn't bring a 223 to this and win it, most people will probably have 308s and derivatives.

By and large, our philosophy is "if you carry it, you can use it." If you want to bring an f-class bi-pod out and carry it around all day and try to use it, then more power to you. Unless a stage specifically calls for a particular type of position we don't care. But this is not a belly match, you'll be moving around over the course of the day and shooting from a wide variety of positions. A minority of the shots will be taken from a nice comfy prone position so I wouldn't suggest you plan on bringing your lead-sled.

You're almost certainly going to want a sling for at least 1 stage. There probably won't be time to roll out a shooting mat at most stages. We'll try to keep you all out of the worst of the mud but I wouldn't wear my best Armani suit for this.

Re: Carolina Sniper Golf 17 Mar 2012.

To go along with what Ratbert is saying

This match will be a test of your field expedient shooting abilities and unorthodox shooting positions.

There are weight restrictions, but you could be shooting from some unsupported positions and I'd hate to see someone trying to use a 30" barreled F Class single shot rig.

Shots will range from <100yds to 750yds maximum. some shots will be from prone, some others will not.

Go look through the pictures of the last match. It will not be the same, but it will be similar.

We will offer some night shooting on Saturday night. Maybe play a round of horse or something. Anyone who drinks prior to this will not be allowed on the firing line for the night shoot. The night shooting is not part of the match. Afterwards we can have all the green beer you'd like while sitting by the camp fire.

There are hotels 15 min away and people are welcome to camp on site.

The BBQ is going to be some good stuff as well!

Re: Carolina Sniper Golf 17 Mar 2012.

Got a chance to look at pictures & read the captions. That helped. I think I might can find a gun thats suitable, just deciding between an AR v/s bolt. But I have seen single shots do not to bad in the past... Looks like fun as long as there isn't much distance to the running

Re: Carolina Sniper Golf 17 Mar 2012.

We're still getting prizes sorted out, but last match we had enough that everyone went home with something. At this point I can't say if it will be the same for this match or not, but Kyle is pretty good at getting sponsor support.

Re: Carolina Sniper Golf 17 Mar 2012.

We will be having a prize table, yes. Prizes are still getting sorted out, but they will be there. Also we will have some of the best BBQ the carolinas have to offer.

A single shot WILL slow you down when you are resting on top of a log pile and must engage 5 separate targets in 30 seconds, one stage from the last match. There are time stresser events. An AR or bolt will be suitable.

Or maybe we could just shoot some green shamrocks in honor of St. Patrick's Day

I wouldn't be surprised to see something like that.

Re: Carolina Sniper Golf 17 Mar 2012.

I just saw this. How full is the match? I have a small group that may want to come shoot it.

One question- is this a fixed round match? IE, can you fire only 1 or 2 rounds per target, or can you shoot as much as you want within the time limit? I'd like to bring my BoHoss Engineering AR, but don't want to give up the benefit of the .260 if it's Virginia count.

Re: Carolina Sniper Golf 17 Mar 2012.

Guys, the WindDummies put on a great match... it is challenging and enjoyable. I learned as much about what to carry and what not to carry as I did about shooting.

I was running a 308 bolt gun with blind mag... and it did hurt me a few times, so being able to use a magazine will help. just my $.02

Guys you wont shoot any more than 75 rounds during the match.

If you want to stay out and camp out Saturday night we will have a little bit of night shooting going on, nothing too crazy. Also if you want to shoot some Sunday morning we will open the range for a few hours before packing it up and heading home.

Re: Carolina Sniper Golf 17 Mar 2012.

Ok, I'm in. I didn't realize there were so many people close that I didn't know, I know about half the sponsors but very few shooters. It'll be good to meet y'all.

Re: Carolina Sniper Golf 17 Mar 2012.

I am a complete Newbie as far as any sort of tactical shooting goes but I may try to get out and "buddy" up with someone and learn a few trucks of the trade.

I'll be shooting an AR10 with a fixed 10x Mil/Mil Bushnell.

May talk the wife into camping out for the night...

Are we still in mustard based BBQ territory or is this vinegar base land?

Thanks,
Brian

Re: Carolina Sniper Golf 17 Mar 2012.

Brian, we will both eastern and western nc BBQ.

Your AR10 will be plenty good for the match.

Hope to see you out there!

Jamie, it'll be good to put some faces to names.

Re: Carolina Sniper Golf 17 Mar 2012.

I can't wait to meet ya'll guys. Got to get out and practicing more. Hope I won't have to much of a handicap with my internal mag tho.

You won't be at a huge disadvantage, maybe one or two stages you'll have some rounds on standby, but not as bad as you think.

Ok, I was wondering around the dollar store while my 6yr old plotted how to spend his allowance and I found your shamrocks. The look on your face when we tell you what you have to do to shoot them is gonna be well worth the $3.

You'll have a good time. We try to be very friendly to newb shooters (to this discipline and newbies in general). the majority of guys that come out are friendly and willing to help other shooters. If you have a question please ask. We all shot our first match at some point in time and were the same way

Re: Carolina Sniper Golf 17 Mar 2012.

Hammrr, If the weather is good you are more than welcome to come camp out. If you want a good nights sleep at the hotel I'd recommend the Hampton Inn, Laurinburg, NC.

Looking forward to meeting everyone and seeing old friends!

We have 2 slots remaining.

nonsense, I think you'll find we are very accommodating of californians. You should come out and join us. I mean, there are the three stages where anyone from California must wear a tutu and ballet slippers, but that's pretty much industry standard at this point, I should think.

Re: Carolina Sniper Golf 17 Mar 2012.

If anyone hasn't received the welcome letter, which contains the address, please let me know and I'll forward it to you. everyone who registered should have received it as long as you provided your email address. If you paid with paypal please check your email address associated with your paypal account.

I could pull off the tutu, although my legs are kinda hairy.

You'll need to carry your ammo for the day, but at any given time you won't need more than 10 rounds on your person and ready to be fired. Most people like to have a rear bag of some sort. The area is pretty sandy so most people probably won't want/need knee/elbow pads, but that's up to you. I personally always carry rain gear with me at matches unless there is absolutely 0% chance of needing it. Beyond that, have your dope cards or whatever, a kestrel if you like, and a pen for keeping score/notes. A sling and a bipod on your rifle are HIGHLY recommended, just shy of mandatory. We will provide you with a scorecard. Many people (myself included) carry far more than we actually need just on a "need it/have it" philosophy, so beyond that it's really up to you.

There won't be a lot of opportunity to deploy a shooting mat, so I personally wouldn't bother. Ranges will be provided (except for possibly 1 stage where you must explicitly range with the reticle) but if you want to bring a laser rangefinder and double check them that's up to you.

Kyle and I hate going to matches, carting around equipment all day long specifically in order to utilize our preferred technique and then be told "Oh, you can't use that..." so by and large we have a "you carry it, you can use it" philosophy. There may be the occasional stage where a rule specifically lays out what is and isn't allowed, but they will be rare and only when absolutely necessary to maintain the spirit of the stage. We do generally place time limits on nearly every stage, however. Sometimes they are setup specifically to make time a stressor for the stage, others are there just to make sure someone doesn't dawdle and bog down the entire match as they build their own shooting bench from the erector set they've got in their pack. So if you bring equipment to use make sure you know how to find it and deploy it quickly because that will be coming off your time.
