Hi All,
I sent my action out to get trued and rebarreled. I also had them install a new PTG bolt. So I get the rifle back and start shooting it and this is when I noticed that the case necks all have a flat side bent into them. I send an email off to the gunsmith and this is his reply:
"It looks as if your getting a hard extraction which is pretty normal for the Remington type actions. Since you opted to replace the bolt with the PTG which has the M16 extractor, your getting superb extraction which is pulling the case along the inside lug recess of the ejection port.
Also you have the case 'pinging' the action at the rear of the ejection port. All these issues will be resolved once you full length re-size your brass. Let me know if you have any more questions."
A couple of things to note here. When the cases eject, they don't go flying, on the contrary, they kind of just fall out of the action and land pretty much right under the rifle. The other thing is, this was new SW Ammo I was shooting with the Lapua cases. I sent a reply back to the gunsmith confirming that if I full length resize the brass it will make the issue go away. I have yet to hear anything back. Granted, I'm no gunsmith but I don't see how full length sizing the brass is going to resolve an issue where the case necks are getting bent. I've attached a couple of pictures of the case necks.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Would the problem really go away with full sizing the brass?
Thanks for your time and suggestions.
