CDG, 737r or Fuzion for PRS build

My wife gave me the go ahead to build a PRS rifle so I can’t afford to screw this up lol. This is going to be a buy once cry once scenario. I saw the Spuhr SICS in person at Mile High and really liked it so I feel pretty confident about using that for the chassis. The ACC Elite would be the other option I would consider.

The big question I have is what action to use? The three that interest me are the CDG, 737r or Fuzion. I currently reload for 6.5 Creedmor and plan to stick with it or another .308 bolt face cartridge for the foreseeable future. I will definitely be using a trigger tech diamond. Not married to the idea but would like to use AW magazines. I’m also planning to use mostly prefits. All that considered what are your thoughts?

I have both, 737 and CDG. Both are great and you can’t go wrong with either. I will confirm the above statement regarding the CDG throwing brass forward. I’m running a 22BR on the CDG and I’m not sure if the issue lies with just the short cases. Got a friend with the CDG running 6BR and his does the same thing.

It seems like there’s a bit more going on with CDG I.e. changeable bolt faces, pivoting bolt handles, bolt quick disassembly. Do you think this make it less reliable that the 737r or its not a factor?

I haven’t had an issue with mine nor has my friend. With that said I could see how it could be less reliable with more going on. I haven’t heard of any issues but there is an entire thread just on the CDG.

What in particular do you prefer about the Fuzion over the impact?

As is always repeated here - the Fuzion is an Impact without the nasty hitch when running the bolt.

Easily Fuzion over the Impact if you want a one piece bolt 2 lug. CDG if you want a 3 lug with some different features.

I have the Fuzion and the CDG currently, sold through Impact that I had.

Exactly, bolt manipulation at slow to half speed, much better with the fuzion. No hitch, click, clunkiness of the impact. No trigger hanger to deal with inlet per chassis and stock either.

I believe the Fuzion also zero no cock on close, the 737r has 90/10 I think ?
I know my fuzion times up beautifully to a BnA tacsport X, no clock on close, however my fuzion Ti has about 0.008 cock on close wirh a TT diamond, and 0.010 with a BnA installed. It's odd cuz my fuzion bolt is perfect in the Ti action body. I'll likely cut the cocking piece down on the fuzion ti bolt to get rid the cock on close.

So in your opinion not having the trigger hangar is a positive?
I personally don't care for trigger hangers. More fasteners to come lose. I mean I have kelbly, CDG, solus actions with the hanger, but to me, it honestly isn't much of an advantage, more hardware that couls come loose, not that one ever has, but I'm sure it's possible. Some chassis will not fit a hanger, some do, either mill or dremel to relieve. Also all rifle stocks I've had for a hangered action, needed relieved info front the rear action screw as well.

Haven’t looked into the Kelblys, is there an advantage over the other 3 actions?
I've got 2 Kelblys and 2 Impacts so I can't speak to the others, but the Kelblys are much smoother and less sloppy. Cycling the bolt on the Kelblys feels like a hand-fitted and polished glass rod in a teflon coated raceway. I also personally prefer the mechanical ejector. That being said, I don't shoot PRS (yet) and I am sure there is a reason that the PRS pros seem to overwhelmingly prefer the Impact.

That super smooth glass hotdog in a polished hallway feel is great until it’s full of dust or mud. I have three impacts and I’ve run them in Oklahoma and New Mexico dust storms and snow storms and down pouring thunderstorms and all combinations of the three and I’ve never once had the action bind in any way. I think that is the point of the “sloppy” feel. Hand fitting is great on a bench gun and shit when the going gets tough. But then I also have no idea what the “hitch” or “clunkiness” people are talking about is either. And I almost always run my bolt much slower than seems likely.

Agreed, more of a chance of dirt or debris jamming up the bolt on something with tighter tolerances. The fluting on the Kelbly bolt is so aggressive though, I don't know how much of a concern that would be. As for the hitch in the Impact, I think I know what people are talking about, but it's not something you really notice unless you are running the bolt very slow.

I run the CDG in the Xylo chassis, it's a drop in fit with no extra machining needed. Love the combination. If you haven't felt the Xylo you need to make an effort to do that before you purchase anything.

I run 6.5C and mine does NOT throw brass forward. ??? I don't like the spring style ejectors so I prefer the mechanical ejector in the CDG. Oh, and the AW mags are great.

In the end pick what you are confident in.

I also run my CDG in a Xylo with a 18in 22Creed with AW mags.
I love this setup but it’s not for everyone especially for competition but it’s definitely one of my favourite bolt gun.

I just sold 2 CDGs and went back to lone peaks…I run AI mags with no issues in the lone peak fuzion they are cut for AI mags.
I run my 25x47 on a fuzion, aw and graw ops aw mags run well. However I couldn't for the life of me, get my 6bra to run from aw/hrd kit mags.

My CDG with aw mags has been perfect with 65cm, 6gt, and 6bra. The 3 lug with one at 6 o'clock perfectly works with DSDF mags.

I have the Gray ops mags too have not tried the bra with factory mags.

That’s interesting. I’ve heard plenty of impact shooters say they don’t care about the hitch, or they run their holt fast enough to not notice, but I’ve never heard of anyone denying its existence 😄

Yeah the “easy to find prefits” was probably a consideration a few years ago, but prefit for most things ain’t exactly hard to find these days.
I go with smith cut prefits for all barrels but I do check out proofs from time to time. Seems they are always in stock somewhere for impact where Proofs for my Zeus aren’t but that’s not a reason to give up my Zeus.

Kelbly's makes actions designed for the field, personally I wouldn't be too worried about their actions in adverse conditions. Something like a Prometheus likely does every bit as well as an impact.

Impacts are fine actions, but they don't really do anything that a lot of other actions don't.
