I have a Remington 700 SPS tactical SA in .308w

Are the CDI precision conversions any good?
they take the AI mags correct?

I have read that they require some work to properly install. Is this true?

Any and all input would be great.
thanks

oh and if this is the wrong forum please move. I'm new to the site

Re: CDI precision mag conversion Rem 700

they work good i have used them and badger
they take any aics style short action mag
the stock will have to be milled out for the bottom metal

Re: CDI precision mag conversion Rem 700

Generally speaking, using AICS mags in a R700 doesn't require any receiver machining if you run SAAMI-length ammunition. AW mags are a different story, but that setup is far less common.

It's pretty easy to inlet a stock for the CDI bottom metal if you have a mill. Due to the shape, it's pretty dang easy to do this on a manual mill with only a handful of end mill diameters (can't remember them off the top of my head, but it's obvious by looking at the print). There are also some folks here who have performed the install with a "mill table" on a drill press, and even a few determined individuals who have made it happen with a Dremel rotary tool. CDI will also inlet your stock for something like $60, which strikes me as an excellent deal for those who don't have a Bridgeport in their home shop.

I found the quality of the CDI product to be quite good for the money.

Pappy, this is what you're looking for:

In summary, you will need to pay a gunsmith to inlet your R700 style stock for any DBM system that runs AI/Alpha style mags. If you have any other gunsmithing work you need done, I recommend you have the DBM installed at the same time. If you just want the DBM system, and only want to pay for the inletting, you'll need the follow the directions in the link above to fit the DBM system to feed into your action properly. Jeff sends these instructions as well.

Re: CDI precision mag conversion Rem 700

I had my stock milled by CDI and purchased their bottom metal this spring. I've been very happy with it so far. It isn't quite ready to drop in as soon as you get the box in the mail; you will have to install the magazine release lever with a roll pin punch and trim the actions screws to the proper length.
