....out of aluminum oxide.

Can the coal slag abrasive or the garnet types TSC sells be used instead of AO ??? It would be nice to have a local source for material and save the wait & shipping. They have the "black diamond" bags and something with a garnet label that I should have looked at more closely the last time I was in the store.

Merry Xmas to all!

Black Diamond sounds a lot like the Black Beauty I use at work, coarse grit finish (30-60 grit) crushed coal slag.

DO NOT use that as an abrasive for Cerakote prep. We can barely smooth the texture it leaves using powdercoating, but only if we apply it thicker than 2.5 mils.

Thanks for the reply and time to make an order out......

If you are in Ohio how far are you from TP Tools? They typically have a good supply in stock and several choices as far as abrasive type and grit.

Just a thought.......

I am about 1 1/2 hours from Canfield. I will hit a local blasting place up on Monday and see if they have any "extra" AO that want to sell. Harbor Freight normally stocks 80 grit and they are out as well.

Thanks for the suggestion and I will give TP a call as well to see what they have in stock.

Thanks for the info.

As luck would have it I ordered a replacement gun from TP last week. I should have ordered media as well but I thought I had some locally available. It cold in the garage to blast & cerakote now anyway......

80 grit works fine too.
It was all I could find until recently I found some 120.
I did my Rem 700 5r and it came out great.
I did put a coat of KPhos first but the finish came out exactly as I wanted and expected.
