So I just finished spraying my action and barrel. I used Cerakote graphite black C series.

I ran out of cerakote right at the end, and went back to the bottle, shook it up abit more, poured more into the dispenser and sprayed it on.

However some of the spots that i went back over look darker than the rest.

Is this still because its curing, or is there potentially more pigment in the second batch.

I used the last of if and when I looked int he bottle there was a clump of black goop.

Am I going to have to re-coat this?

Re: Cerakote color problem

It's been my experience that when spraying graphite black I must shoot and keep the wet look before stopping. When I have had to stop even for a short time and the coating flashes off dull I'm SOL if I don't shoot to rewet so to speak, if not I end up with what you described. I never had the "clump of black goop" problem. I say your going to have to recoat.

Re: Cerakote color problem

When spraying "C" air cure, I have found that if the air pressure knob gets bumped and changes air pressure at the gun while spraying, it will change the tone of the finish. More air pressure will lighten the finish color. Much more noticeable when spraying black.

I hang the barreled action muzzle down and start spraying the nooks and crannies of the receiver first. Then starting at the tip of the tang, I work my way down to the muzzle. My goal is to keep the air pressure knob on the gun consistent until I am done. I focus on just enough paint to cover, look wet but not enough to run as you work your way to the muzzle. Then inspect the rifle from tang to tip looking for areas that need one more spritz.
