Measured a chamber tonight to the lands. 2.952 (pretty consistently)
Hornady Gauge and case, 175gr SMK. 308
Remington 700 Heavy Barrel Circa 2003.

Sanity check--this seemed SUPER Long (remington known to have long throats, but i have no reference). Obviously rounds even .050 off the lands won't fit in the mag. Anything to worry about? Just find a sweet spot and go?

I have a factory 700p that measures about the same. Sits at about +0.009 headspace too and shoots better than your average rifle. Usually about a .4moa rifle with 175smk at 2.840 over 2000-mr. Every once in a while she’ll do something golden for me.

Don’t sweat it unless you see a problem. I jump mag length 215 BHs .07” (300WM) and they shoot half MOA or better to 1250y if I don’t fuck up the execution. Gives you an opportunity to figure out a heavy load too, for single loading if you want to try F TR with a heavier bullet.
