Suppressors Chambering the first round

My new job requires chambering the first round, at the beginning of each shift. The ammo is .40 S&W Gold Dots. How many times would you chamber the same round before rotating it to practice stock vs. daily carry duty ammo?

I was thinking no more than 10 cycles per round.

I've never really had any noticeable setback with .40 S&W. I carry Gold Dots in my SIG P229 and it never really happens. Didn't notice any with my GLOCK 23 either. With .45 ACP I had much more of a problem.

I guess it will depend on the type of firearm you're using, but I'd say check them with a gauge if you're uncertain.

Can't speak from experience on that one then. I'd just use a caliper and check them, or compare them to unchambered rounds.

Can you secure your weapon at the end of the shift and leave it loaded?

I wouldn't do it more than two to three times without rotating it to the bottom of the mag. The problem with checking it with calipers is you have to do it once it's out of the gun and you just trusted your life to it. Most of the set back that I've seen with rounds happens all on one chambering. Not a little each time. The crimp may hold up to 2 or 3 or 10 or 15 chamberings, but when it goes it could set back a 1/4 inch all at once. Then you start your gunfight with a big bang and a broken gun after one shot. I can undestand why they do it, I just think it's a bad policy.

Wow, this is a good reminder. I have done this multiple times with one round and have not really checked it. I will check it out and if the round still looks good, maybe move it to the botton of the magazine.

Depends on how conservative you are, especially if you provide your own ammo. I don't load/unload as frequently, but I have noticed differances in as little as 20 evolutions.

constantly cambering the same round will push the bullet back into the case.

since you have to do it daily, i would use the same round for about a week (look at the round), if it pushes in, i wouldn't reuse it, maybe shoot it at the range

Leave it hot.

I have a round in the tube in every one of my carry guns. They stay that way. The only time the round comes out is when I fire it. I practice with my carry guns once a week so I stay sharp, which means the round gets cycled with fresh at least once a week.
