I am changing out the base on my rifle. The rings I have are going to be the same, they are Mark 4 Leupold. My question is this, can I just loosen the 1/2" nuts and take the scope off, change out the base, then retorque the bolts? Or should I take my scope out of the rings, remount the rings on the new base, then put my scope back in the rings?

Re: Changing base, have question.

Well, if the rails are of like spec (Weaver or Picatinny) you should theoretically just be able to pull the scope and rings off and throw them back on the new rail; BUT, there could be slight differences between the rails that could result in your tweaking your scope when you tighten the rings down on to the base.

To be safe, I'd pull the rings off of the scope and remount.
